tips on replacing crank case,,

Post by chuxsta »

while waiting for new crankcase cover to come i removed the current one..

apart from taking it to a bike shop and getting them pressed out. any suggestions on removing the water pump bits n bobs from the existing case?
there is the bearing and a splined type shaft through the bearing as far as i can tell at present..

The manual says to press it out, maybe you can rig up something with a vice and large sockets etc.
Can't remember where I downloaded the manual from but its free do a google search for it, very handy.

yeah i have a service manual very handy pdf file. , im also used to making do with my tools and making new tools out of stuff. more fun and satisfying over coming a problem with only a hammer, peice of wood, oily rollups and some pg tips.

was just wanting a bit of input from some one who might have already drifted this shaft out just incase i bugger something up..

Stripped mine out when I had the crankcase powder coated. Nothing to worry about, they're not in that tight. Standard bearing puller did the job, can't remember exactly what I did, but it wasn't difficult.

Follow the reassembly instructions in the Haynes to make sure you have the seals back in the right way round.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

all went swimmingly in the end...

had to order a new mechanical seal though.
david silver have them a silly price.. was cheaper than my dad could get it at trade with discount..

all went back together ok.. heated crank case put seal in freezer for a minute or 2 and bish bash bosh...

only issue i had was with a very minor leak from the water pump...
think a new seal would have been an idea but have used some gasket silocon stuff and its top bannana..
