BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
Hi was fiddeling about taking out the baffles back out put the cans back on and the link pipes back etc etc...
fired it up with nothing on me feet and could feel hot hair rushing over the toes, BALLS!
put it on the stand lent iy over and felt about, its blowing from both link pipes, i think it was doing this in the first place hence why it was poping and banging so much on the over run.
ive been out and baught some of the exhaust repair paste stuff. before i set about buggering stuff up has any one else used it?
and when ive used it will i be able to seperate the link pipes again or will they be buggerd after this stuff hits them.?
any orther advise lads?

Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
Yes, it'll come off in hard chunks when you remove the pipes.
However, it's totally dependant on how big/small the gaps are as to how well it'll set/work. If they're too large you'll just blow the paste out, even when set, and have the same problem again.
Pop some in and leave the bike to idle for ten to harden it up. See how it goes after-it's messy stuff...

Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
You are supposed to fit new fibre gasketts as the old ones get brittle and break up when you take the pipes off

I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.
Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
i dont have any gaskets, are you supposed to use them on the link pipes to the the downpipes?

Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
Where are they blowing from Seb? Under the shock where the link pipes meet the headers?
If thats the case I had the same problems on mine when I fitted Carbon Can Co exhausts and link pipes. The links were ill fitting-especially where they married up to the headers.
I thought only header pipes needed fibre gaskets where the headers meet the cylinder heads? I've never seen any where the links meet the headers...

Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
On the can to link pipe joints i used silicone sealant, link pipe to manifold was the same as there wasn't room to use gaskets, you'll need a cylindrical gasket in the rear pipe near the swing arm next to the shock, and then two ring joints onto the engine block.

from the link pipes only where they join to the downpipes, yeh i didnt think the used gaskets as the orginal pipes didnt have gaskets, ive not removed the downpipe from the engine at all as there seams to be some confusement here.

hi just an update, used the car plan stuff, a lot of it!
did the gentle warm up.....
left it to cool for a while
fired it upagain some time later and no more blowing, result!
lests hope it holds out on the Red line on the motorway....
Must say the pipes are so much quiter now there not blowing at all... my dad thaught i had put the baffels back in and its not poping and banging its butt off now when you shut off the throttle.

are those for the Headers into the Engine Block?
or are you supposed to use them on the Maninfold to Link Pipes as Well?

Re: BLOWING AT THE LINK PIPES. URGENT
All of you who recommend that above, are you using the general building purpose silicone such as clear, or are you using the heat resistant versionTimbo wrote: SILICONE SEALANT !!!

I use the general purpose clear on the rear CCT end cap/bolt to stop any oil leak, and it works a treat. But not sure if general purpose would stand the heat from the exhaust.
