Come ON! Get another Firestorm!
There are usually lots on ebay but if you want a V-Twin, the Firestorm is a great option. Otherwise there's plenty of older 600s out there... for 1500, you should be able to get a decent package...

Re: Which Track Bike?
Have a butchers on motoforum.net...usually loads of track/ex race bikes on there. The advantages of getting one already tracked up is that you might get some spares and wets-on-wheels, and the suspenders might be fettled.
If you go down the road of getting a road bike, then get a cheap one. Its fairly expensive to get track plastics/fettled suspension etc etc. I did it and it worked out a lot more expensive than getting a pre-sorted trackbike. having said that, I enjoyed messing with it, and I know that most of it is right (not bodged by someone else- unlike my mate that bought one......rad was bodged with silicon sealer, exhaust studs bidged etc, etc)

Re: Which Track Bike?
the storm is a fantastic bike, but i wouldnt want to use it for the track the suspension is medica the brakes aint brill and front shocks would need replaceing with a blade unit.
i fancy something cheap thats allready geared towards being a race machine, that parts are plentyfully for.

Re: Which Track Bike?
Not really true. The standard front forks are OK, I had standard ones on my track bike for time and never bottomed them out (who said I was a sissy?!)... wind them up to max and they'll do...
The rear I can't comment on as I've got Ohlins on there....so you might be right there....
Agreed, buying a pre-made track bike is better... this winter might be a good time to buy....
Depends on how much money you have available...if you want a V-twin, Mille are a good buy, as are SP1, but you are looking at over 2K then....Can't go wrong with a 2000ish R6 or CBR600 or maybe even a Fireblade, R1, GSXR... all of those will go some...
Good luck and let us know what you evenutally get!

Re: Which Track Bike?
Another option is too have a look at the local vehicle salvage yards...
The one near me (small one in cornwall) normally has several bikes for sale...
