what is it with nodding????
what is it with nodding????
I just don't understand this nodding thing, i've been riding for over 10 years, and it's getting progressively worse, i've had 50cc scooter riders nodding at me, and even a guy on a pedal cycle wtf is it all about? i drive a vauxhall combo van for work, never been nodded at by fellow combo owners. can cyclists nod at you if they own a combo?
Put me in an empty room with a brick and i'll either break it, lose it or hurt myself on it!!!

Re: what is it with nodding????
Get into the spirit of it mate! It is one of those things that bikers just do. I owned an Impreza a while back and they did the same thing. You can call it macho or bravado but i find it just plain nice. I think that it brings some brotherhood to a world of ignorance and people who use the roads as a means of transport.

Re: what is it with nodding????
ok ok, maybe i'm a world hating cynic but the letter pages of mcn are full of gripes like "i nodded at someone this morning and they didn't nod back and I rode straight home and spent the rest of the weekend crying". i love bikes, i've been buggered at home waiting for replacement bearings today but even now at 7.35 i can hear howling exhausts out the window. but dont you think biking attracts a different brand of juggler? maybe i'm one but it's all 'i can goo faster than thee, i've had my helmet down, i've took my foorest rubbers off to save weight. if i could get 90% of the people on this site together i'd enjoy a ride out. my problem is, you only have to look at visordown's forum (a good mag nevertheless) to see the biking world is populated by the same brand of rejects that populate the souped up corsa and subaru worlds. i don't ride a bike with anyone else on it, don't ride one to prove anything to anyone but me, don't have any biking mates (unsuprisingly), never ride in groups, i'm not very fast, but everyday i come across bike's ridden by the same sort of guys we all say should be crushed in their own cars, i can't stand the gsxr etc riding morons who think because they ride a bike they should be exempt from prosecution for 130 in a 60, and i'm damned certain i aint gonna be nodding at anyone that thinks their my bestest buddy and pal because i'm on a bike and their on a go ped! deap breath, rant over

anything with wheels or tits is gonna cost ya money.

Re: what is it with nodding????
a friendly nod means nothing more than a tip of the flat cap and a top o the morning to ya..
agreed there are some morons out there,, there always is always will be.. just cause you nod your head at one of them ( not that you can tell they are morons ) dont make you best buddys that share every thing down to your partners underwear.
the only time i do agree fully with your bold statements is when at a cafe or just stood minding my own business and one of said morons comes over to tell me how many crashes they have had how fast they can ride and how his mrs must like men with small cocks..
thats when i like to draw a line between me and members of the biking public..
METALDAN.. here is a question for you...
do you get frustrated when your approaching a set of bends that you love when a sunday driver who has never been above 3rd gear in their nissan sunny is infront of you and wont pull over to let you past?
or if said sunday driver does slow down even more and moves over for you to pass do you say thank you with a little thumb up as you blast past them?
also IF you drive a car ( i dont yet ) do you pull over to let bikes past if in same situation mentioned above?
or do you take your same negative approach and think wombles em! they can wait..

Re: what is it with nodding????
I don't think they are particularly strong comments, but nevertheless, i don't remember being stuck behind a car whilst on a bike for any length of time that i found irritating, except for a local road which is all double whites and beautifully shellgripped corners populated by walking topsoil in daewood matiz's's's''s's? and yes i make a point of always thanking car drivers for letting me through when the circumstances allow because i believe that it does something for the cause of biking, like i said i love bikes always have, just not a fan of bikers per se. i have to also add that this forum seems to be populated by more down to earth, dare i say 'mature' bikers who probably understand what my gripe is, maybe it's the bike thats more suited to mature tastes, i can't for example sit talking to anyone about how my storm hit the rev limiter at 190 in a tight corner with my ebbla on the tarmac because most know, and the reason we all ride these is because we don't really care (just my opinion) my main problem is that i am sick to the back teeth of people ruining this game for everyone else, i was a bobby for some years, the police do get a slating here, sometimes from me, but in the most part they are guys like you and me trying to do a job with limited resources and no backup, not to say that the vast majority of them aren' t fiddler because they are, more often than not young eijits corrupted by the power a pair of cuffs brings, but if motorcyclists continue to ride at highly illegal speeds in innappropriate areas, with loud pipes and takethepisstiny plates, black visors and asbo attitudes than it'll have an influence on the rest of us that do that sort of sh1t with a certain amount of reserve most of the time

Re: what is it with nodding????
I got a few full on waves today ,not nods but actuall waves.
I sometimes think its a pain in the ass actually ,especially if maybe 15 bikes are comin towards me ...ffs ..i feel like one of those nodding dogs on a car parcel shelf
I think nodding/waving is more suited to winter riding ,where maybe bikers are few and far between ,dont get me wrong,i always return a nod/wave ,infact sometimes i'm first to do it ,but.......
Strange thing happened last week...sitting at traffic lights a chap crossed in front of me ,walked right past my bike and said " nice bike mate"....followed swiftly by "i'll race you ,ive got a new R1 ,Limited Edition"....and off he walked
Ffs....what was all that about.....aye..a bandit 1200's gonna blow a new R1 away
He was prob enroute to the new sex shop thats opened in town for a chipolata developer

Re: what is it with nodding????
thanks for that i rest my case, when i first started on bikes my dad hated them, still does, but some rock that lived in our village turned up on his v-max and told pa that it was the fact that any moment it might snap out of his hands and kill him that kept him riding, that he lived every day for the thrill that any moment he might die????? KNOB JOCKEY, it's this brand of fools that are doing the damage

Re: what is it with nodding????
besides no doubt you'd find his new bike was a picture he'd seen. Do yamaha make a limited edition r1, or did he used to own an fs1e with an austin maestro lim edition badge? couple of years ago i came across a carl fogarty rep duke, with a carl fogarty rep rider, right down to the helmet graphics. 20000 worth of bike and kit, huge mouth on him and boy could he wheelie, did great through the 30 zone up from the bike shop then a wobbling foot down mess on the next roundabout
