Can i have some advice please? I picked up my storm yesterday and it rides and pulls well but i am getting a mechanical clattering sound from the bottom of the barrels and crankshaft area which is quite loud. It is more noticable at idle but the noise is still present at higher revs. Are thes engines strong in the camshaft area, and have they been known to knock out the big end bearings? I am imagining CCTs as being quite a tinny rattle not quite as deep as this noise is although the noise seems loudest on the side of the barrel where the CCTs are situated. Any advice would be appreciated pleeesssssseeeeeeeee
P.S. If anyone who knows these bikes is available in the Norwich area to give it a listen it would be appreciated too. There would be some beers/a few cups of coffee in it for you

Sounds like CCts to me Is the noise louder on the front or rear cylinder? Search CCT's on this site and you will have enough info to diagnose, repair and modify your bike. Its common and easy to fix as long as the valves havent been damaged. Advice is do not run it until you have ascertained whether or not the CCT springs are ok. Hopefully you will have some help from Norwich area. There are guys from that neck of the woods on here.

Thanks for the reply.
Its louder on the rear cylinder but both are noisy. So is it the movement on the chain causing the can shaft to move about thus causing the clatteryness? It just sounds more mechanical than that but then i'm no expert.

There are other Storm rattles but that sounds like CCTs to me.
Point taken the bike will be confined to the garage until i can get some new tensioners fitted, its lucky i made it back from london to Norwich without a hitch. What are the other possible causes for rattles you mentioned?

I wouldn't bother speculating until the CCT's are changed, thats probably what the noise is. My one sounded like a bag of spanners when I got it. After changing the CCT's, checking the valve clearances, balancing the carbs and sealing the leaky exhausts she sounds as sweet as a nut.
Good call on not using it until you replace them, don't forget to follow the instructions in the knowledge base you don't want to muck up the valve timing. Good Luck!

Thanks for the support bud. I have had 2 engine rebuilds on my VW in the last 6 months one at a garage and one done by myself, the old girl does not want to play the game anymore as its pi$$ing out diesel from the injector pump now. I really could do with the Storm working right now but patience is a virtue.
I need some good luck
