Fork painting

The paint on the forks is starting to show its age in places, what is the best way to tidy them up. I did a little test area with silver hamerite but its way to silver. Any tips and hints would be appreciated.

I did mine black, from this

Did the wheels as well went over them with a wire brush in a cordless drill, rubbed them down with some 120 wet and dry them grey primer and satin black from wilkinsons. Seems to be holding up ok, chose black because it wont show the grime so much.
Did the calipers black with BBQ paint from B&Q.

I used Simoniz 5 silver wheel paint on mine. It comes in a spray can and someone on here recommended it to me.

Is the Simonez a similar colour to stock Sirch?? cause I like the colour of the stock, silver with almost a hint of gold in it (thats if you compare it to silver hammerite that is). I thought about polishing them but how long do they stay chrome like before the Scottish weather sets in??

just gave mine a wipe over wi polish everytime i cleaned the bike, kept the finish up a treat matey, only a 5 min job, there some piccys of my old bike in pimp your ride section, under camel VTR.......... yeh i got a polishin fetish

You can make your own mind up on the colour from the pic's. I have a feeling they may be a little lighter in colour than standard.

I did a deal with one of our members for these fork legs in exchange with my originals. The reason being these have been breathed on by Roger Ditchfield at Revolution UK. In-other-words they have been up graded. They came to me in black, but the guy who painted them must have done so with them still fitted. See pic's they speak for themselves. I removed the old paint and lacquer using Nitromors paint stripper, that made the job easy. You'll have to decide yourself whether to paint or polish them. Polish IMO looks the best, but you have to keep at it. Probably not too bad if you don't ride the bike all year around.

PS. And before anyone mentions it, I know I made a small mistake by not painting right up to the top of the fork legs. I thought the fork protectors when fitted would have covered that part completely, but as you can see they didn't.

wheel silver looks good and spray over with a clear coat which helps with stone chipping theyll look nicer for longer, if you really want you can paint with different shades or colourings ie silver and gold etc etc

Cheers for the pics Sirch, looks good to me mate, decisions decisions, it going to be a winter job so I guess I still have a wee bit of time to decide.

I went the polishing route earlier in the spring, and lacquered afterwards.

Seem to have held up fine, even with the 110 mile daily M25 commute.

But we'll wait and see what the winter salt does
