Lately the bike begins to stutter and stumble from zero, I gotta slip the clutch....However, not along after the 1st stumble, the bike will go onto 1 cyl, and then cut out.
Now I use fuel filters in either fuel line, I can see that there is plenty fuel in the filters, whenever this happens.
If I open/close the fuel cap, the bike will start again, 1cyl, and then settle into a proper idle, and be OK again for +/- 5Kms, before she stumbles and then the inevitable cut-out.
Last nite I used the air compressor, blowing air into the vacuum pipe that runs fropm the belly pan up to the tank, perfect no blockages...
What am I missing here?

Stutter and then cut out
Re: Stutter and then cut out
Has it ever run properly with the fuel filters? One possiblity is that the fuel lines are being kinked and restricting fuel flow, you might not be able to see the kinks if they occur when you put the back of the tank into its mounting. You might be able to see fuel in the filters but the kink could be between the filter and carb or they just might not be able to flow enough fuel.
Have you had the tank off recently, you might have put the hoses back on the wrong way, lots of people have made that mistake which can cause odd running. There was a diagram on here somewhere but i can't find it. Check in the manual there should be a diagram in there.
Another possibility,

Re: Stutter and then cut out
Yeah I have had the tank on & off so many times recently.
I use a torch to actually try & spot any kinks in the fuel hoses, as I drop the tank down, they are ok.
With the bike on the side stand, and I turn over the starter motor, one can see the fuel flowing into the filters, so there are no kinks.
The fuel filters have a very low resistance, and has been no problem for 2 years.
The strainer in my tank above the petcock got damaged years ago when I had the tank sprayed, so I removed the trainer and used filters ever since.
Honda South Africa are a rip off and a new strainer is gonna cost R500, whereas a filter is R15

Re: Stutter and then cut out
I reckon that you've put the hoses on incorrectly. When you lift up the tank and look at the fuel tap, there should be two of the large (1cm) pipes coming off from 9 and 3 o'clock, going to the carbs. There shouldn't be a tube attached to 6 o'clock. This looks like a pipe attachment but it's not. There is another pipe attachment around the back of the tap.
Let us know.. I hope it's this....

Hi Gerrit,
Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem you had with the bike running rich
Iirc someone had messed about with the jets in the carbs
Chris.

Re: Stutter and then cut out
Yeah the richness seems to have been the mixture screws that were sitting at 3 1/2 turns open.
As far as the hoses & petcock is concerned, one can NOT attach the fule hoses incorrectly. They are of a different diameter to the other hoses.
I am gonna replace the diaphram inside the petcock, maybe there is a tiny hole in the diaphram, and then the vacuum will not be sufficient to keep the petcock open.

Re: Stutter and then cut out
It's not the fuel hoses that you can connect incorrectly, it's the vacuum hose that is often incorrectly attached. Seems like you've discounted that though. Good luck with it. Let us know what the resolution is...

Re: Stutter and then cut out
Vacuum hose is correct. Als the left pipe's filter is full all the timke, it is only the right pipe's filter that stays empty
Re: Stutter and then cut out
Can you not just tee off the working one?Gerrit wrote:Vacuum hose is correct. Als the left pipe's filter is full all the timke, it is only the right pipe's filter that stays empty
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
