Hey fellas
Does anyone know if it is possible to swap my existing 16l fuel tank for the later 19l one? I have a '99 firestorm and could do with the extra range, as I will be doing some continental touring in the summer.
Appreciate any advice given
Cheers
Shaun

Re: Tank replacement?
There have been quite a few posts on this - try Search, but the simple answer is yes, but the fuel tap and other bits are different I believe. Chepear and easier to strap a 5l palstic can on the seat for touring IMHO!VTR Marmite wrote:Hey fellas

Re: Tank replacement?
Yes you can if you can find a newer tank, and have a hammer to accommodate the earlier model's larger airbox or sumfink
or you can fit a VFR tank (again hammer required)

BTW, that's my record of fitting the VFR tank - looked bloody awful when I finished it so went back to the original!Wicky wrote:Yes you can if you can find a newer tank, and have a hammer to accommodate the earlier model's larger airbox or sumfink

Re: Tank replacement?
I've toured my VTR in Ireland, Belguim, Germany and France (4 times) and have never had a problem with tank range. Quite frankly after 100 miles I'm glad to get off the bike and stretch my legs.
In terms of getting fuel the Sat Nav has been invaluable in finding petrol and now chip and pin cards work in Europe using unattended petrol stations hasn't been a problem for me in years.
Hope you enjoy the bike and have a good trip when you do go.

Re: Tank replacement?
Cheers for the welcome
I think I will leave it as is then, I don't fancy takin a hammer to my pride and joy, my aim is crap.
As mentioned, I think after 100 miles i'll probably need a rest.
Cheers fellas
ps. had a feeling this question had been asked before, but I could not find it, probably due to my crap search skills

I didn't think UK cards worked in the French unattended petrol stations?tiggerii wrote:I've toured my VTR in Ireland, Belguim, Germany and France (4 times) and have never had a problem with tank range. Quite frankly after 100 miles I'm glad to get off the bike and stretch my legs.

Re: Tank replacement?
My Nationwide Visa card has never given me any problems at unattended stations in Europe. Also a very good vard because they don't add commission to foriegn transactions
