not a trickle charger ....but

Post by ChrisC »

can anyone tell me if a AC/DC Adaptor would do as a trickle charger,I was having a clearout and came across an adaptor that has the same 240V-50Hz
input 12volt DC 500mA output as some chargers. In the process of buying an Optimate but thought it might do for a spare battery Or am I being silly and about to blow myself to Hell :D

All the more reason to get a trickle charger. if lead acid batteries deep discharge then they are effectively buggered. Stick it on a trickle charger (you'll get one off eGay for about £30.....it'll save you having to buy a new battery when you do get back on the bike.

I've got an Optimate, but are they really that good? Do they really extend the life of a battery? My battery in my track bike, so fair enough not used daily, needed a charge up so it's been on the optimate for a while. All lights are green suggesting the battery is fully charged and it's a good un. howeveer, put it in the bike, it might start it once, but then it's knackered...still turns it over but not fast enough...

So what's the deal with the Optimate? Is it all marketing hype and an old battery charger will still do the same thing?
