Another question re sprockets I'm afraid.
I'm in the process of changing the rear sprocket to add 2 teeth and I've just read you should replace the chain if changing the sprocket. I realised new chains need new sprockets but is this the same the other way round.
The chain is in good nick so surely it'll be ok.
Cheers for your input
sprocket and chain question
Re: sprocket and chain question
If the chain isn't very old and has been looked after, there shouldn't be a problem.
It's a good mod this one, makes the bike feel a LOT quicker on pick up.
Chris.
P.S. can i have your autograph?

As Chris (Jonesey) says, if your chain is in reasonable condition you shouldn't have any problems. Just remember your chain adjuster markings will be well out.
If you're careful and want to you can remove the adjuster markers and re-stick them in the correct position, but you will need to check where they are first before removing the rear wheel, unless you can remember their positions.

Re: sprocket and chain question
Cheers guys, that's as I thought but always good to check.
Seems like a good mod but not had a chance to put it thru its paces properly as brad new tyres on today as well.
Tyres seem great (Maxxis sports touring) but will be able to tell more after a few more miles.
Cheers

Re: sprocket and chain question
My next tyres are maxxis, bought them already just sitting in the garage waiting for the demise of the current bridgestones.
What do you think of them so far Mark?

Are you calling me Mark again Chris?.!
Giddsy is a James! I'll send you an autograph to remind ya!
So far, which is only 40 miles, very good, specially for 110 quid delivered. But besides the price feel great. Was going to go for the sport sport ones but do quite a lot of miles weekly so given the rain we can expect I thought it best to go for the tourers.
Will keep you updated.
Cheers,
JAMES

Also, when I went +2 I bought a small bicycle computer and mounted it on the dash, just to keep an eye on the 'real' speed I was doing, you just have to set it up correctly first.
Failing that, it seems that with +2 it reads roughly 10mph higher than you are actually doing, which I checked using a sat nav.
