Worry free riding - CCT's done!!

Today was the day when I finally had the time and space - garage finished, child at play group - to get amongst it with the CCT's.

Just one question, the flappy bit of rubber by the fuel tap - does it go down towards the shock or over the top of the cam cover??

Feel really chuffed with myself for doing it all on my own, sounds daft don't it, but a real sense of satifaction.

Just gotta fit the rest of my goodies now - hugger, undertray, high level links and micro indicators - that's all easy and next weeks job!!

The flappy bit folds back on itself and hooks on the rear tank bracket to make a U shape under the fuel tap.

Well done, must be a weight off your mind.

The rubber flap goes down the folds back up, if you look at the trailing end there's two slots which go over the tank mount bracket before dropping the tail of the tank down.

Wish i'd had the b@llocks to do mine, cost me £650 at CMC in Nottingham

The front one went after I had done 300 miles on it and in the process the cam chain jumped a couple of teeth and bent my exhaust valves

I'm removing the seat unit next week to do the undertray so I'll check if it's the original Honda one then. I'll price up an R6 or R1 reg/rect - that seems to be what is recommended?
What should I expect to pay at the scrappy's and do I need to mod the Yam part to make it fit? (There's probably a post on here telling me all that)
If it fails - it's not a disasterous thing like the cct's going is it?

The Rectifier I think is just as bad as the CCT, just not as catastrophic . If it goes then your out on a ride and run out of battery juice it causes a great deal of inconvenience. You cant bump it and keep it going, cause Storms rely on the battery to run, also with mine the garage said it was like sitting on a time bomb, my rectifier was charging the battery at 19.5 volts, and our batteries are sealed. So I was lucky that my battery did not explode.

Definitely worth fitting an R1 or R6 rectifier if yours still has the original one, that has no cooling fins on it.

Ok thats enough to convince me I need to change it.............thanks a lot for the the advice - this forum is worth it's weight in gold - (not sure how much a forum weighs but if we all wrote letters like 'old days' it'd be tonnes)

This first thing that I noticed going wrong which got me checking everything is the storm will not start cleanly if the battery is a little low on charge. When I bought her she never started what I would say properly, I know its a black art starting storms, but once I had mastered it I started to investigate the battery and found if it was low on juice the bike took more effort to start, does the rest agree??

One thing I noticed is that you need to change your starting technique once you've had the Dynojet kit on or it's been set up properly on a rolling road.

From standard with mine I rarely needed to use choke, even in the cold weather, as it was set up fairly rich anyway.

Once jetted, some choke needed for a minute or two, and a proper warm-up meant no fluffy pull-aways first thing.
