Exhausting...

Post by Jbrebel »

Yes, another exhaust post!

So, my Microns arrived today  They're nice looking things with fitments on the back to mount the can hangers to-quite neat.

On inspection things look fine. They're in good conditon for used exhausts.

One problem-a badge rivet on the lhs can has pulled through the carbon sleeve slightly-this wasn't mentioned on the item description when I bought them  That's EBay for you! Good job I didn't pay much :)

Needless to say, its not a massive issue and is'nt a factor in the structural soundness of the can. The can is held together with allen bolts.

But I don't like the look-plus it annoys me when things are not described correctly on listings  I can live with it for the time being mind...

Anyway, how difficult is it to resleeve an exhaust? Does anyone know which places do it and at what cost?
These will come apart with an allen key and the removal of about 6-8 small rivets holding the badges/mounting bracket on the rear.

Cheers

Shouldnt need to resleeve. If you can get it apart enough to get your hand into the back of the rivet, drill out the old washer and put a small washer over the new rivet from the back.........if that makes sense :eh:

Know what you mean Richie/Tim :D

It looks to me like the can already had slightly larger rivets in it round the badge mount... thus the hole below it is slightly larger already  I dont want to have to put really big rivets/washer tops back in.

I'll take a piccy tomorrow and bob it on the thread so you can have a look.

Appreciate what your saying though-its a good idea!

If needs be I'll do that on both cans to tidy them up/make them look the same  Micron heat resistant badges are avaliable on the net for a quid or so, so I'll be able to get it sorted hopefully

Like I say, its pretty academic if not a little annoying-good job I did'nt pay full whack.

Oh, they're oval too with big bore links 8)

Drill out the other rivet and then stick the badges on with double sided tape.

I've seen some replacement badges I'm going to buy already :) They're pucka Micron badges-heat resistant aluminium foil.

Would I be better to size up the rivet heads needed, remove the old ones, clean the area, re badge with replacment new ones and rivet straight through?

Or cut the badges to fit around the new rivets when fitted?

Gaffer tape.
It's an old bike anyway, why worry.

Nice one Tony :P

I'll sort it tbh Tim-I paid enough for them but not over the odds. Like I said, its academic but annoying :x

The new stickers have only cost me £2 so thats fine.I drill the old ones out, remove the old stickers, fit the new ones, pilot them with mounting holes and revit them in with slighty bigger rivets

Booked in for my link pipes making next week so that should be it then! Not bothered about the high levels.

Time to make sweet music :P

I'll PM you it :biggrin

Know what you mean-its very annoying. I'd rather someone be completley honest with items even if its not perfect.

I've emailed him with some choice "comments" this morning anyway-see what I hear from those :x

That's EBay for you though...

As mentioned

Think the larger rivet is the way to go.

Yep, looks that way-if not it'll have to be the washer/rivet approach.

I should have the new decals tomorrow so I'll have to take some time to look at what'll look tidiest.
