Hi Shaun and welcome to the forum.
If you're a mechanic you've probably tried most things by now. However have you checked the valve timing as this could be 180 degrees out.
Have a look at this link if you've not already http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326 I know it's for replacing the CCT's, but ignore that bit and concentrate on the valve timing info.
Also read the eleventh post down in that link above. I explain how the front cylinder cam lobes should be facing. If they are 180 degrees out they will be facing the wrong way.
Chris.

Another one to check is a leaky diaphragm in the fuel tap.

Hi, Shaun.
Re the exhausts hot and cold, that's not unusual.
If you remove the RH side silencer and look into the end of the pipe you'll see that there's a bit of pipe that protrudes into the join and partially blocks the RH side silencer.
Seems to be deliberate, and causes less gas pressure through one side compared to the other.
If you search in workshop you'll find various comments and threads about it, you can clean it up but there's no clear evidence of an advantage either way.
But I'd check the cam timing first.
Where are you based? There's probably someone local who can assist if you're not too sure.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Had a similiar thing on mine last year, would not rev past 6000 revs regardless of gear,or through trying to coax it,took it up and down the motorway,no way it was gonna rev past 6,just hit a brick wall.As i was taking carbs off noticed that the front carb choke plunger had not been seating properly,it was in effect still out,the plastic bit had not been screwed in properly,so i screwed it back in reasonably tight being careful not to cross thread it,put carbs back on and took it for a run.Spot on an unusual one but it cured it,just a thought, best luck with it..

You don't say if anything was done before it started doing this, but I think sirch could be right with the valve timing, as I had a similar problem.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
