No SP2 Speedo reading
No SP2 Speedo reading
Just got back from a blast and the speedo read 0 for the last 30 miles. Before I start to strip off fairings does the SP take the pick up off the front sprocket?

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
No, its a speed sensor located at the back of the engine, right next to where the earth strap from the battery connects.

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
Had a look round and all the lecky aspect of the sensor look good. No problems with earthing or battery terminals so it apperas that a new sensor is in order. Taz may do it under warranty but after the undertray melting episode I doubt it

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
Is it by any chance the same sensor as the firesorm? (He asks in vain hope)
If so I have one.
Chris.

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
If you switch the ignition on and connect a volt meter between earth and the pink(?) wire on the sensor, then spin the wheel you should get a 0 to +5v (ish) pulse, if you do then the sensor is working.
Also, did the mileage counter keep going whilst the speedo was reading 0 for the last 30 miles?

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
Zak gave me the error code info and the FI light flashes one long one short. This equates to 11 which points to speed sensor. Looks like it will need replacing. Will have to wait till I get back from penguin land. Really appreciate all help and advice. The guys and gals on here are a class act.

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
Jim,
As per my pm...One long followed by one short is 11, which is a speed sensor fault. Now the bad news...a new sensor is £120
from David Silver (generally cheaper than the Honda dealers LINKY). The part number is 37700-MAL-602 (which supersedes part number 37700-MAL-601)
Looking on the Ron Ayers site and doing a part number lookup, part number 37700-MAL-601 is shared with the CBR600F2 and F3 (1991-98). No mention for the Firestorm though.
I'd be checking all the connections at the clocks and at the sensor first.
BTW, you can download the Service Manual from here
<EDIT> the Firestorm uses a different speed sensor- part number 37700-MBB-010 LINKY

It's CBR600 f3 95-96.
You sure it's not same part as Firestorm?
If you want to just try the one i've got your'eChris. more than welcome, if it doesn't work, just send it back!

Thanks but the Firestorm unit is a totally different set up. The Blackbird version looks the same but doesnt work alledgedly
