On the multi it displays a constsnt 5.5 volts without the wheel rotating, any ideas?Phil-VTwin wrote:If you switch the ignition on and connect a volt meter between earth and the pink(?) wire on the sensor, then spin the wheel you should get a 0 to +5v (ish) pulse, if you do then the sensor is working.
Also, did the mileage counter keep going whilst the speedo was reading 0 for the last 30 miles?

you have to move the wheel to create the Hall effect for the sensor, as each tooth passes it, it breaks the field and then volts go low they come back up again in the space between the teeth.

Tim you have now totally lost me. I cut and pasted the same number that DS listed for the SP but the link was from a different site showing a clock display I didnt recognise but the sensor was the same Part No. I appreciate as I have already said all help in this matter as I haven't come across this issue on any of my bikes. There may be a quick fix or not. You can have your teddy back now if you want
Phil thanks for your info it definately seems that the sensor is kaput. I will keep my eyes peeled for any CBR6 sensors of the right year on flea bay. Failing that DS will get £120 flipping quid!

Re: No SP2 Speedo reading
The correct part number was listed in my earlier post (37700-MAL-602) which is common only with the earlier CBR600s.
Jim, it might be worth looking at the 3P connector that lives under the seat cowl. Maybe the pins have gotten wet and have corroded? On page 19-7 of the service manual (link in my earlier post) there is a diagnostic for how to check the sensor and it's wiring. The fault also could possibly lie in the instrument cluster itself.
I would check every inch of the pink/green wire that is fed from the speed sensor, just to make sure it hasn't chaffed somewhere down the line. I had a really hard-to-find intermittent fault on my SP1 (it would keep blowing the main fuse).....I eventually traced it to a wire that had chaffed on one of the coil brackets (it had a sharp edge on it)...frustrating as hell, especially as I had to lift the peetrol tank, airbox, throttle bodies just to trace all the wiring loom through).
It'd be a real pisser to buy a new sensor and find it doesn't fix the problem.

Flipping loom looks terrible where they have spliced in the Meta alarm. The 3P connector for the sensor looks good with no corrosion. Its going to have to wait now. I have far too much on my plate at the mo to dedicate time to the bike
. Will probably re-post when I get back. Thanks again.
