+1 on semi synth...............

Honda mechanic told me to stay away from fully synth on the VTR, he said it will give clutch slip .

Steve,

Glad too hear you got it fixed, although like your mate am not to sure how that actually caused the problem, but after saying that, wiring can cause some strange happenings for sure.

For oil I use Semi-synthetic too.

funny you should say that chris.

was @ bike shop getting oil(when went to top her up,the filler cap wasnt even tight.was a allan screw on & used my hand to take it off :eek2 ).the guy didnt think indicators would cause that either.also saw a honda car mechanic in local paper shop & asked him & he said the same.

maybe me messing about with wires @ the back end did something.maybe wired bad whoever put on new flashers or maybe i havnt found the short yet.

was looking @ all the reciepts for everything thats ever been bought for the bike(got all mots & taxdiscs).cam across LIFTER ASSY TENSIONERS bought from dave silvers 1 bought 4/05 & 1 bought 4/06.what are these, take its not cct's.
if it isnt well i dont think my bike has had cct's replaced.bike has 29,500 on it & asked the guy from bike shop to have a listen & said no sign of any rattles & sounds good to him.worth still to get them done sooner than later.

also noticed last few weeks that bike sounds like a helicopter when idling, not loud or anything,is a very nice noise.would that just be ware in the baffles.

thanks for any info on above.

Steve,

I guess time will tell about the is it/isn't it the indicator wiring that gave you no spark.

LIFTER ASSY TENSIONERS are the CCT's (cam chain tensioners)

thanks chris.

the guy who bought ccts ordered 2 on 4/05 but got a refund as said on bill only 1 needed.then bought the other 1 4/06.

1st was put in @ 19,038 & 2nd @ 20,962.

so id say im ok for a couple of more 1,000,if still sounding ok.

ps asked guy @ garage if lifter assy tensioners was cct's said didnt think so as thought just called cct's.also said dont chance puting manuel 1s on incase they move.

thanks for info guys,im taking it all in.

Steve, don't ask me why the different name for the same thing, but here's the proof. If you look at the invoice (below) you'll see the part number is the same as in David Silver's listing (below) for the CCT.

I did not think you used oil is slow running objects, you have to use grease....oh below the belly punch there

When you come to change them, think about the modification to stop them fully retracting and sodding the engine up, that's what I am doing. Buying 1 new and replacing the front with the mod, then taking the rear out and doing the same mod and putting it back in. Might consider getting a replacement spring as Tony says there is company that sell them.

They don't move if you follow the instructions in the workshop sticky thread, you only remove one when they're not under and tension from the cam ramps.

They will do if you just take them out at a random point in the engine cycle!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

thanks for all the info.

ive been having a few pops like as if engine is away to stall/cut out & have to rev it when im slowing down with clutch pulled in,seem worse in the rain(as into day,was stotting).

last time i was in pouring rain 30miles from aberdeen(it was very stotting down & dreek)my bike started only firing on 1 cylinder, only reving up to 6,000 & could only get 40mph tops.left it half an hour & would be back to normall till 2miles down road & do the same.4 hours later after stopping & starting.i took of seat to check plugs, before i did that i touched all the wires under seat & she started & went ok(didnt have to look @ plugs).

im wondering if i have a short somewhere under the seat & thats what was causing my non sparking aswell.

what you think guys?.

ps she runs great apart from that
