Re: Engine probs
Hi mate, feel gutted for you, similar thing happened to me with my last bike (Triumph Daytona) had to break and sell it on Ebay. Thing is ,if you get the time to break it you will make much more money. I did it with the Triumph and nearly got back what I originally paid for it.
Also I had the front cct go on my storm recently which cost me £650 to repair, for which I am still in debt over
.
If you think of selling the mirrors separately, let me know, I would be interested.
Good luck with future bikes mate.

Re: Engine probs
gutted for you mate.wish i could help.
its the worst feeling in the world when things go wrong.
sorry if jumping on your thread, just be good to know what to look for in ccts.
if this happend to me id prob cry,the luck ive been having.i to like you would be unable to have money to sort.(ive still to pay my mate money i borrowed to buy bike, got half sitting).
im new to bikes & this cct thing is always on my mind.
i think this is what happend to my zzr600.came up a hill passing a bmw 4x4 if you know what i mean.@ the top just heard a loud noise as if exhaust came off,but not as noisy.then lots of rattling.got few hundred yards then stopped & wouldnt start.bike was old & wasnt worth fixing.
how can you tell if ccts are goin if you dont know what to listen for?.
i have no rattles when start bike.i have noticed a more wraspping noise from my exhaust of late, just when driving & like a oil rig helicopter coming in when on idle(not loud noises, just a deep tone).i rememder the zzr having this wrassping noise for a month or so before it broke.it was micron pipe with holes drilled evrywhere & a few weak/rusty spots.can you tell through exhaust noises if ccts are on way out or more just a baffle issue.
ps just had a listen to ccts on you tube, ist it like a typwriter sound to listen for.
thanks for reading & sorry for putting this on your post.

Re: Engine probs
Fit the stoppers to the CCT's you have today and then no more worries.
it sound daunting, but if you print out what written in the workshop section of the forum and go slowly you can do it no problem.

Re: Engine probs
Sepia,
The Stopper mod is a fix to the standard CCT, so in theory will cost you no more than the cost of the replacement gaskets for the CCTs as you can do the mod on your existing parts, as it makes them safe even if they do fail.
The link to workshop section on removal of CCT's is:
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326
You need to follow that for any CCT work.
The link for the stopper design is on page 5 of this thread:
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 9&start=60
And my photos of the work are on page 2 of this thread:
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 9&start=15.
If you need more help, or the drawing of the key you need to make to lock the CCT just ask.

Re: Engine probs
You don't even need the gaskets, leave them out and a smear of instant gasket silicon sealer does the job just fine.
There, that's saved you another £4.
10% cut as usual

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Engine probs
You could always hieroglyphic?
-Cheaper than buying one.
I believe that what was meant was that if you modify your CCT's with the "stopper" mod, in the fairly likely event that the internal spring fails, the stopper will prevent the tensioner from retracting far enough to permit the cam chain jumping a sprocket tooth or two, leading to piston/valve interface clearance issues.
This eventuality has been known to have a catastrophic effect upon engine longevity and performance.
It also has the side effect of causing involuntary sphincter spasms, and utterances describing situations or occurrences which are possibly harmful, physically unlikely and certain to result in the likelihood of long-term harm if attempted.*
* even in the double-jointed.
