Ohh that makes we wince..........glad you are OK, but there by the grace of God go any of us.

Those of us who have not ridden our bikes over the winter.........remember it not just the roads that have gotten bad, but we have lost some [all?] of the riding skills and road feel we had at the end of last year.

I remember a number of occasions in the past on my 1st ride of the year when I did things that I do in the car, that you just dont do on a bike.........worst example was when it started raining when I had only got 10 mins away from the house so I did a U turn on the dual carrageway, and as I had a rear wheel drive car at the time I would give it a big foot of throttle and let the tail get wild in the wet. ................Guess what, I gave the bike a big handfull like I would in the car, and then sh1t myself when I remembered that you dont want a tail slide on the bike... :eek2

Glad you are OK and thanks for the warning

Funnily enough AMCQ46 I've just been reading a similar storey on another forum.

The guys decided to take his bike out after having it stood on charge since October. Chucked his leathers one, pumped up the tyres, warmed it up, etc...

Taken it out and chucked it on its side in the middle of the high street 8O

He'd forgotten the tyres on the bike were new when it got put to bed and not scrubbed in as yet 8O :silent: Oooppp's...

Do not attempt to straighten lever cold. Put it on gas cooker for as long as you dare and then straighten it easily. It works, believe me - mine restored like that 2 times (each time different place of bend).

Get a bar of ordinary bath soap and rub it on the alloy. Then heat the lever. When the soap blackens the alloy will be at the right temperature to be worked. Keep and eye on it (especially if you are using something like a MAPP torch), as the melting point of ally is very close to the temperature at which you can work the metal. Once the soap blacken, then no more heat!!!

I had forgotton about the soap trick..........thanks for the reminder.

I just used heat & gentle force [if you can do such a thing with a stilston wrench] to straighten the clutch lever on my trials bike. It worked fine [luck!], but the soap gives you a good indication that you are at a workable temperature so I will try and remember

this is one of very few parts on Storm that are cast magnesium alloy.
You can plug it with various substances but it won't be perfect.
You can weld it but you need guy who knows that he is doing VERY well.

Buy one off eBay and stick carbon cover on it. This is route I am taking.

er, just to prove you're right about the roads, i fell off mine tonight lol :(
turning round on a b road, full left lock, rolled off and bike just went from under me.
dunno why, just a bit slippy i think.
bike's not too bad (in the dark) don't think i've done the tank but left fairing's cracked and scraped, front indicator smashed, clutch lever bent, gear lever and can bent etc.
could've been worse.

hit the kill switch quick and done me back in trying to pick it back up
soz for grainy pic, i'll have a proper look termorrer if i can move lol.
