CCT upgraded springs
CCT upgraded, read article on one of the forums that someone can supply new springs for cct, did I miss read or imagine it. If this is a solution and how hard is it to get old springs out? is this a better option than APS or or other manual tensioners? would love to here from someone who has gone down this route as this seems to me to be the best solution, a reliable spring would be preferable to manuals as the spring would act like a shock absorber (am I just graspin at straws here) let me know, tks.

Greenwood springs is what you're searching for, it's an old post so may not still be around. Just type greenwood in, but I don't see a contact addy or tel, maybe someone else has one.
Or try google?

Re: CCT upgraded springs
I'm having mine done next week and the conversation with the guy was:
a) it's easy to mod the existing ones to be manual he said
b) he thought Honda have modded the springs anyway but kept quiet about it
c) I've printed the content from the forum about the rod mod and will talk to them about it
will let you know how I get on - dropping it off Tues morning

Re: CCT upgraded springs
I have been in a dilemma about the mod as I have the bike in pieces and have decided to follow many others and Tony to fit manuals.
My reasons:
- with the mod on the automatic CCT, you still have to change them when they fail and they will.
- its a pig to get to the front CCT, so if I going to take the bike apart to fit modified CCT I intend to do it once, not once a year.
- if you look at this link and get this guy to make you a couple of CCT then it is cheaper than automatic and APE manuals.

Re: CCT upgraded springs
Tks to all, its a greyish area "to buy or not to buy". Seen somewhere that new automatic cct can let go as early as 3-4 thou, flippin heck no wonder the big "H"
kept quite, Toyota springs (no punn intended) to mind.

Re: CCT upgraded springs
woo hoo - just picked the bike up. The front spring was corroded to the point of near breaking - phew, glad I trusted my instinct, and ears!
Anyway, have now got manual ones. What they did was thread a bolt with a slotted end for a screwdriver into the housing tp prevent the plunger from retracting, all tightened with a locknut. Said always done this and never had a repeat problem - adjustment every 6-12 months.
so, mind is at ease, no rattle going on.

Sounds like you're sorted, well done.
Now you can start worrying about the reg/rec.......

Re: CCT upgraded springs
Tony you have fitted these manuals from this guy viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14857, do you have to modify the end of the manual tensioner as there a serious meaty head on the Honda auto's. I know that it is worth pinning the end nut and would do that if I get them.tony.mon wrote:Sounds like you're sorted, well done.

Re: CCT upgraded springs
No, it just presses on the back of the tensioner blade so although a shallow button end radius on the internal end would be nicer it doesn't need it.
Actually I haven't pinned the external nut onto the bolt thread end; it seems to work fine just with the araldite on.
I just wanted to get them fitted; and didn't have any roll pins in stock, but if the nuts ever work loose it'll only take a few seconds to do.
