Jumping outta gear

Post by Gerrit »

Hi guys!

Lately when accellerating hard in 1st gear and I go over a bump in the road, 1st gear disengages- jumps out?

What - where - how, can I start sorting this.

Bu the way had a 140km'h prang with the tyre wall Zwartkops-Raceway this past weekend. It was the 5th lap of qualifying, and the left-hander is flat in 4th, marshalls did not display the oil flag, wrecked my race car and start to the championship.

regards,
Gerrit

Sounds like 1st gear engagement dogs, means an engine out and strip, split crankcases and while you're that far in you might as well check big ends, mains and crankcase bearings, especially the big one behind the clutch, as I've had one of these let go.

Or another engine, if you can pick up one from an accident damaged bike.

Or go up two teeth on the rear (or down one on the front) and just use second to sixth!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

had similar problem on a suzuki and it turned out to be the detent bolt which is basically a ballbearing on a spring - inside the oil drain plug of all places, it was gummed up to crouton with shite.
used to drive me mad til i found out what it was - wasn't so bad going through the box, but i had to hold it in top with my boot to stop it dropping out of gear.

not sure where the detent ball is on the storm box but might be worth consulting the book to see if it's accessible.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Gerrit,

Are you sure your foot is not just lifting the lever when you go over a bump :?:

 Whoops, Sorry
I watched Gerrits little excapade coming off track last night and that was the next Vid on You tube. Seamed a lot funnier after a couple of Voddies than what it does now
