throttle position sensor question

Post by RAINMAKER »

read on superhawk site adjusting TPS, which they said gave mpg of 40 +,
could this really work? how would you do it and what are the risks?
it may be clever, but its not big.

easy. take off the original throttle and replace it with a toggle switch!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Here's a link to one of several threads on this.

40mpg?
Sounds over-optimistic, TBH
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Tried it a few years back and the only difference it made on my VTR was to soften the power down low (which is eactly what I don`t want) so I put it back to the stock setting and all is well with the world again.

There's always been a lot of talk about the TPS not being installed correctly at Honda. A load of folks have been resetting them by the manual and claiming fantastic mileage, more power, cleaner running, Hell i think one guy even managed to fly his to the moon :D
I've tried several different settings on mine, various different states of tune, and it makes very little difference. The bike works best at the factory setting so personally, I'd leave it alone.
Oh! and I've seen 48 mpg out of mine when I had one...and I've seen it struggle to make 30
Most of it depends on how you ride it and if you've got it set up properly.

So
Have you got another one Paul?...I was hoping for a dry summer :D

That about sums it up Kev. The poor girl was nervous enough before Paul gave her his worldly advice  I think she was down right brave to stick it out after the advice :D

Getting back to the original question Paul  Do what Stormin Ben did if you really want more MPG. Fit a free flowing air-filter and free flowing cans, then get it set-up properly on a dyno
