Hi
"sorry for my bad english, but in danish :-)"
I just bought a vtr1000f /97. with 42000km on the engine. This is my first 2 cyl machine, so the engine "noise" is verry new to me. i know the engine sounds verry diff from a 4 cyl.
I wass just wondering when iam in gear, or i just stand in free gear, it sounds like alot of "noise" from the clutch, or some lower part of the engine. When i drive it, it runs fine, and all seem to come from lower part of engine.
When i change from 1 gear to 2 gear, its like it has a "Clonk", but it jumps fine in gear, but i can fell it in my foot (hard to explaine)
So to all you VTR vets out there, its this normal ?
Jens.
Engine noise ?
Re: Engine noise ?
Hi Jens,
Welcome to the site!
The noise changing from 1st to 2nd is definitely normal, they all do that. I just shift up to 2nd slightly early as it is a smoother change at lower revs.
Not sure about the clutch noise. I suspect it is normal, I know that when I got mine I was paranoid about the various noises but over time you get used to it.
Maybe someone else will be able to help more. In the mean time - enjoy your new toy!

Re: Engine noise ?
Hi there. If you get a bit of a rattle from the clutch when you are idling which goes when you pull the clutch lever in, then that is perfectly normal.
Clonk between 1st and 2nd also normal.
Clonk between 1st and 2nd also normal.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Re: Engine noise ?
Yes, nothing to worry about if the noise goes away when the clutch lever is pulled in.
Just fit louder exhausts!

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
