Electrical fault(Need help please)

Post by BLADE-RUNNER »

I came to my bike this morning, switched it on and !CLICK!.Then nothing-no lights, ignition lights or anything
Ive checked the fuses including the main 30 amp under the seat pod and they all seem ok.
Oh and the battery is fully charged :confused
Any ideas please

If all the fuses and battery are ok check the earth lead from the battery to the engine

Still a bit confused but feel that im getting somewhere.
Ive checked the battery with ignition off and its fluctuating between 8 and nill volts.but still no power, not even to power the ignition lights.
However i have connected my battery charger and now have ignition lights.but wont start.Surely if the battery is showing even 8v it would power the ignition lights.Any other ideas PLEASE!!!

DOES IT SOUND LIKE A R/R FAULT

yes indeed it does, but would also suggest replacing the battery and check the stator coils (under the timing casing) for continuity and insulation - only cos i got the exact same readings and faults on my cbx750, turned out the r/r had pickled the battery and one coil of the stator (generator windings) was down to earth.

since changing all the above it is spot on - no more problems.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

DOH  Job done me thinks.I put the red and green wires on the new R/R the wrong way round.

Now the battery is reading just under 13v when not running, going up to 13.5v on tickover and 14v at 5000 rpm.does this all sound about right anyone :)

I've put terminals on the wrong way loads of times and so have the people teaching me, its human nature, Glad you sussed it, i fitted a new R/R to my bike when it was in ownership of the person i bought it from and so far no problems, its a revised one to the original.
