Zero tolerance on speeding

Post by Orange Robbie »

Down at the bike club last night, subject raised was zero tolerance on speeding as reported in the MCN, the Government are trying to sneak this through the back door. :!: :x Lots of discussion relating to tyre diameters when new + when worn + the effect of this on speedos etc. etc.
Anyone seen this article :?:
Surely this can't be right. Speedos have a built in tolerance and can read out by up to 15%, I belive, but willing to be proved wrong, which I probably will be. Anyone got a copy of the British Standard relating to speedometers, must have some details in there about tolerances.
What will they do :?: get all speedos callibrated, Jeeze wot a load of b*ll*cks.
Do governments and flatheads [coppers] have nothing better to do with their time, apart from persecute road users, esp motorcyclists.
The Chief flathead of North Wales has issued an edict that motorcyclists should be prosecuted, or is that persecuted? for been 1mph over in a thirty zone, + Heroin should be legalised, which is a side issue to this Forum, exerpt from a Radio 4 interview. Yeah I know boring, let's just leave it at that.
How the hell can they make this stick, anyone had any experience of this in the land of sheep?, no offence ment, but they will pull you over for just having 2 wheels there.
Slow in, slow out. Ohh err missus, now with added G-Force carbon fibre race cans. Sounds like a Spitfire.

Tell me about it mate. It cannot happen as you say vehicles aren't required to be that accurate and logically cannot be made to be that accurate. I'm not fretting because I believe it cannot be made law unless we are empowered (with 100% accurate speedos and tires that anever wear.) to be able to adhere to this"law"

Any one say "the great speeding riots of the early 21st century"
cos thats what would happpen and I would be IN. :!:
I got knocked down, but i'll get up again and you'll never ever keep me down!

I think you will find it's 10%. Saw a bit on speedos on top gear a few years ago.

The only police cars that have an accurate odometer are traffic cars.
These have to be calibrated regularly. Traffic cats also have thier tyres changed after minimal wear to keep thier odometers accurate.

All other vehicles have speedometers what are a speed indicator. A normal police officer in a normal police car would find it harder to nick you for minor speeding because his speedo may be more out than yours.

The C&U regs allow an error of 10%, but clearly state that the speedo must not under read. So your speedo will never show a speed less than the true speed, but could show more.

No defence there, I'm afraid.

always argue

Post by STEVESTORM »

If you are nicked - sorry approached by a police car ( polite phrase) and it is not a clearly identifyable traffic unit - the big cameras on the dash give it away, then accept the lecture / ticket and plead not guilty. I recently got a ticket for 44 in a 30 and had it thrown out on lack of evidence. They paid my mileage and Lunch!!

Any speeding conviction be it car or gun must be accurately calibrated before each use. Throw any doubt on this and you can even beat traffic units in court.

For advice or tips send private message c/o Belmarsh HMP or my e-mail!?

Well the defence that one solicitor used over here recently was that as the speed camera in a car, or the hand held ones don't give a print out of the speed detected, therefore there is no physical evidence, leaving it impossible for a defence team to prepare for a court case! Case dismissed.

Zero tolerance

Totally agree, best step forward, flipper plates, it's not illeagl to have one just to use one.
The best way to wire them in I think, is to wire through the dip switch for the headlamp unit, no other buttons on view, and a simple way to use one.

I'm not totally against speeding, there has to be some form of control in built up area's, but some roads just beg for them to be ridden hard and fast. Others are just over policed which in some ways is just farcical. Take the Cat + Fiddle, a road that should be ridden with respect, esp. the first time on it. Yet now come the weekends, so to speak, spotter planes, marked cars, marked bikes, unmarked cars, and flatheads just hanging around the car park at the Cat. If they put as much effort into making the road safer, the accident rate would fall accordingly, but it wont be made safer, easy cash aint it. The Ponderosa Cafe, just the same, flatheads waiting outside the car park, small plates, loud cans, smoked/irridium visors, all soft targets.
When will they realise that by basically outlawing bikes on a certain stretch of road, they push the problem to a different location. For Cat + Fiddle now read Bosley to Buxton road. I'm trying to avoid Wales now and have started going into Shropshire, not as many flatheads and decent roads, I can enjoy myself, but with a reduced risk of been pulled. O.K, break the law, and your fair game, but not to the point of persecution which in some areas it has become.

Maybe this varies depending on different police forces but in Derbyshire virtually all the police cars have calibrated speedos, not just the traffic ones.

killer cameras

Post by STEVESTORM »

The difference is similar to the printout scenario. Only Traffic units have cameras and therefore evidence to produce at court. A gun or speedo that does not print (99% of them) will not produce any evidence against a not guilty plea. I have had a case thrown out for lack of evidence when I disputed the gun reading. 2nd tip is when the orifice sorry officer shows you the gun- don't look just agree. Failure to ensure you see the reading will also dismiss the case most times.

Shezz thats lucky aye! Over here the buggers use 1 gun that shoots ya speed and then the result is radioed up the road and the pigger up there gives you the ticket, meanwhile the gun guy has shot a couple more cars/bikes.
Ya see they dont have to show you a bloody thing, hell the cop might even pull the wrong car 'tough' you get nicked same as the gun cop he may shoot the wrong car 'tough you get nicked.

The same goes for radar speed fines, they dont have to show you a thing and should you contest this in court then the judge say 'I have to believe the police man' (no evidence needed)
We the moterist lose, lose lose.
