Post by Phil-VTwin »

Its time for new tyres, does anyone know where to get a pair of the M6029 Touring tyres cheaper than Ebay (£123 delivered) ??

Thanks

Try DK Spares - think they were 116 a while ago...

Tyre snobbery mate

A lot of people refuse to believe they are any good due to the price.
There's probably a lot of truth in that  There's also the fear factor of wasting my dosh on a tyre I've not used before and having to replace it if it's crap. It's easy sticking with something I know is going to work, even if it is a few quid more. I'll bet a lot of folks fall into that category too.

Ditto Pete

In some circumstances though I think some people go way over the top when choosing tyres. Not so much brands but compounds etc.

It really makes me laugh when you see someone with really expensive super sticky tyres Rossi would be proud...but they can't ride for doggy do  sports touring tyres are all I'll ever need for the road. Most tyres offer far better levels of grip, lean, etc than I'll ever need as a road rider.

more the fear of having to replace your bike if you buy a crap tyre.
nothing worse than throwing it into a bend and it either wanders over the white line, steps out when you're not expecting or drops down like a nun in a carrot field...

not a big fan of replacing just the one tyre - if you shop around you can get a pair deal for not much more than a single.
don't mind the back drifting a bit but i still fill me kecks when the front goes so i'd rather bin the front early and have a matched pair on.

i haven't used maxxis meself but from the feedback i've heard i would definately give them a go next time i'm shopping.
for the moment i'm nore than happy with the michelins on the storm and avons on the cbx

only ever really bought one bad tyre but only paid like £20 for it so yno...
wasn't happy with the squarish profile and blocky tread pattern, but that was soon fixed with a centre stand burn out!!

I never swap them as a pair, not unless they are both bald at the same time.
I always used to fit a sports front and a sports tourer rear when I was doing a lot more miles. 12 -18 K a year As long as I stuck to the same make front and rear it was never a problem.
I'm a bit like Benny in that I don't like the front moving around, get a bit of a slide on the rear though and I'm just grinning from ear to ear :D

I probably don't use them to their full potential either but the thought of having to ask them for a little bit more (misjudged bend or plonker pulling out ect)and having it there gives me a little feeling of confidence I might live to scare myself another day :D

May even try some Maxxis next on that note Tim :)
