urgent carb question....

need an answer fast lol....

does anyone know the purpose of this orifice plate / restrictor in the intake rubber of each carb???
it is 46mm internal diameter - but the carbs are 48mm bore...
need an answer before i grind it away and polish it up to 48mm lol

i'm wondering if it is there to collect fuel on the over-run but seems unlikely.
both intakes are exactly the same, with a slight oval section that goes to the edge, the rest of it restricts the intake by 1mm all round...

They look like the inlets from a restricted model to me, just been out to look at a spare pair of carbs i've got, and the inlets don,t have that metal ring!?
Think you can just pull it out??

apparently it isnt there in post 2000 models - it's coming out anyway lol!!

46mm is the same as the carbs on a varadero - which puts out what?? 85 donkeys?

must say tho it looks nice & shiny inside the head - might be a bit happier now it's not being strangled. :thumbup:

The early models didnt have the metal, it was added to stop the rubbers distorting and leaking.

I am the father of twins, and it was due to the rubbers distorting and leaking, so there's something in that........

And I've heard you can get metal rings for added performance, too.

Or are we still on about bike engines? :oops:
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
