Talk About Good Luck

Post by pariah »

Went over to see parents last week. Bike went well for being stood up for a while. Whislt over there popped into local Honda dealer regarding battery probs.
On the way home, didn,t realise that an OIL leak had developed and was filling up the belly pan.
To my horror when pulled into parents drive and stopped on the bolck paving they had , oil was pouring all over it.
Stopped bike real quick and put her on the stand. Looked in the front of the belly pan and found that oil had been spraying all over the side and run into the belly pan.

What disturbed me the most , was that the oil had gone all over the rear tyre . . I dread to think of what could have happened if decided to have a blast on they way back. Plus I had the old girl on the back as well.

belly pan off, clean oil up . Now to find where it,s coming from. After a couple of seconds it revealed it,s self.
The bloody oil filter had a small hole in it and was squirting out . Never ever heard of that before. :confused
New filter and oil the next day.
To sum up this encounter, never park bike on parents block paving with oil leak :Ball Kick: and VERY VERY BLOODY LUCKY.

years ago I had a 550 honda and topped up oil but forgot to put cap back on oil filler.............my leg got hotter and hotter until I realised. doh..............................scariest thing was when in a blistering hot summer (remember them?) I road into a long stretch of road where the tar had melted, worse than ice...........
it may be clever, but its not big.

Lucky escape.
What make filter was it?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

i would suggest some cunningly positioned drain holes in the belly???

had a similar incident on my storm on the way back from lancaster not long back - i decided to ride back through the town so i could frighten some old ladies and look at myself in windows, as you do... and you know how they get hot when you go slow?
well i could smell hot. burning hot, like burning oil and hot metal.... looked down and was alarmed to see white smoke belching from around the swing arm...
pulled over and found the filler tube had come off my chain oiler and it was dripping down onto the link pipe manifold!!!

(wavy lines and up & down harp sound...)

used to have a cj250 many years ago - horrible fkin thing tbh, but an interesting design feature was the self lubricating rear tyre due to ingenious positioning of the crankcase breather tube just behind the centre of the swing arm.
whenever the bike leaned over it would cough a good splat of hot oil onto the tyre, vastly improving it's handling.

(wavy harpy thingy again)

also had a suzi x7 that suddenly started giving like 10mpg but simultaneously began to handle superbly so i left it
like that until i realised that one carb was overflowing onto the soluble shin-meiwa tyres giving sort of a variable compound super sticky tyre
