Gear shift mod

Post by Giddsy »

Came across this on the Oz firestorm site and have to say it has fantastic results. No more clunk from 1st to 2nd even at high revs... :D

Tools required : 10mm open ender.

Time : 5 minutes.
Skill required : Virtually none, too easy.

Firstly measure from your shifter to the ground so that you can ensure it stays in the same comfortable spot after the job is done.

Loosen both 10mm lock nuts on the shift rod.
WARNING - FRONT NUT IS LEFT HAND THREAD

Remove the 10mm bolt from the linkage on the gearbox shaft spline.

Slip the linkage off the spline and rotate it one tooth clockwise. This will raise the shifter quite a lot. (I am doing this from memory, it is possible it may be anti-clockwise)

Finally adjust the shift rod to place the shifter back to the original measurement you took at the start of the excercise.

Blaze mentioned to me that he was missing gears on his bike, and after this mod the problem was fixed.
It is simple and quick to do.

will give tha a go bud, clunky 1st to 2nd really annoys me and it's always in town where everyone looks round!
looks round as in turns to look, not looks round as in appears to be obese...
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

The intention is to ensure that the actuating arm at both ends is as near 90 degrees to the linking rod as possible.

If yours is already like this don't move it one spline; you'll make it worse!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
