Oil consumption

Post by matt1966 »

Hi all was hoping for some feedback on oil consumption its been a while since I have had a bike with so many miles on the clock (30000). I have had the storm 4 months now I did oil change when I got and have since done over 2000 miles in that time, I have had to top up once probably half a litre and now it needs another top up. It doesnt smoke and plugs are spot on. Is this normal ? by the way its a 98.

I try to top mine up every 2,000 miles or there about, not as much in winter because its not been flogged but I do give it the odd few glugs of oil every now and then between changes

Mine is 97 model with 60 000 km on the clock. No top ups. I just change oil every 6000 km and did not notice more than 100-200 ml oil loss, but level still OK anyway.

Mmm sounds like our bikes might have a problem then Matt... Will keep a close eye on mine to see exactly how much oil it is losing I think...

Do not want to open Pandora box of "which oil" :) but I must mention that using fully mineral oil increases chances of more consumption in case bike spends a lot of time in heavy traffic, e.g. filtering and generally low speed-high temp riding.

OK, OK, I'll shut up now :)
