Can't work this one out. Just finished putting the back end of my Storm back together after having it all down for a good clean and to get some of the suspension bushes renewed - anyway, previous owner clearly had never cleaned around the sidestand switch, it was plastered in chain grease and dirt so took it off and gave it a good clean using WD40.
Refitted it and it's intermittent on working. Now - what I have discovered (by having it up on a bike ramp) is that I literally only have to touch the top of the sidestand spring lightly (tad of tension) and it works - but only if I touch it at the top. Anywhere else makes no difference.
I'm totally bemused by it - can anyone shed any light on this? Do I need a new switch or is it something else?
All suggestions appreciated!

Cheers Tony. Just read the link (and strangely i fitted an R1 Rectifier at the same time as well) however, mine isn't cutting out at all, goes into gear no problem. Hmm. Does sound though like maybe a new switch is in order. I'll keep a watch out and also see if Jonesy has any. Thanks for your help

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Just remove it, I did. In 9 years of VTR ownership I never once had it do its job (I NEVER ride off with the stand down) so I decided to remove it before it caused me any problems.

Well - got my side stand switch working (Jonesy not sure if you sent me a switch buddy (if you did it never arrived) - let me know if you did), what i found might help others who might encounter the same problem. What i discovered was that when one removes the centre bolt that holds the switch on, underneath there is a very very thin washer between the bolt and the unit itself (its external to the unit, so doesn't mean pulling the whole unit apart). If one lifts this washer out there is enough room to get a good squirt of WD40 into the switch to clean up the connections which is what I did (squirted in WD40, wound the pin on the switch back plate forwards and back a few times, drained out the excess WD40, re-assembled (not too tight on the bolt, just nipped up - and hey presto, side stand light works again everytime.
