what is this noise?

Post by tim-e »

My storm when riding it makes this rattle at all RPM, when you pull in the clutch it stops.
It only does it on the move.
Carn't see any thing loose, is the any part in the motor that is known to come loose & make this kind of rattle?
( it runs very smooth & pulls well )

That'll be the clutch.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Ok, as in the big nut is loose, or is the basket & plates worn out?, is the clutch a weak part on these?
Thanks for your input, it'll save me some time which right now, I have very little spare!

check out the section on the clutch in the manual - you can view or download it in the workshop section.
there's a few possibilities but i doubt its the big nut or it wouldn't work.
wont be the thrust bearing cos that would only rattle on idle or in neutral...

faultfinding section is a good start
there's only so many things tht can cause it.

out of interest, are your carbs balanced???

reminds me of our chris, took his brand new polo back a dozen times cos of an irritating rattle that increased with speed.
they did everything, changed the clutch, new gearbox etc....

well, everything except check the back wheels.... it was a stone under the wheel trim!

The carbs have not been balanced of late, but that would only show up at low RPM?
I'll check it out this week end, hopefully nothing to serious!
