Hey all
Me and my pal Chris fancy a Great Northern Tour next weekend. Plan is Stockport to Glasgow, by lunch. Then to Ft William by 6, taking in A82. Overnight in FW, then home via Stirling, make way down to Richmond, home over Hawes/Ingleton/Skipton way.
Would anyone know some really nice routes, cop hotspots to be wary of and anywhere good to stay in FW?
Cheers!

Take waterproofs.

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Watch out for the plod on the A82 as well at the weekends, they are usually in the helicopter patrolling the main route from the green welly to oban and also , if you head to glen coe they'll be there. usually a lot of them in and around the green welly to remind you they are there.

Just back from a long weekend up in the West in the car - the first time back up there since having a bike, so I was thinking about the riding. It struck me that the A82 from Crianlarich to Ft Willam would be a bit dull to ride unless you were happy to just cruise. Of course the landscape is fabulous, but the roads are just so fast & wide & open if you wanted any spirited riding you'd have to be going at warp speed and as kevg says, its heavily patrolled. The A816 up to Oban is probably better fun - depends whether you want twisties with yer scenic grandeur.

Try this... http://www.streetmap.co.uk/place/Dukes_ ... 814431.htm ...the 'Dukes Pass' from Aberfoyle to Callander ,in the Trossachs area of Scotland ,(next to Loch Lomond)done it today ,very easy to get caught out if you take your eyes off the road for a second.............especially if there happened to be totty on cycles and you decided to err ....'admire the view'.........whew ,that was close ..Whoa Nelly! wrote: - depends whether you want twisties with yer scenic grandeur.
