Anyone know the cheapest place to get new exhaust valves? After my manual CCT worked loose and having taken off the front cylinder head I can see they arent seating so without taking them out yet im guessing they are bent. Also, with the cost of the valves, gasket and time and effort to re-seat the new ones and shim etc etc is it worth doing it myself? Has anyone taken their head to a garage to get done and got a price so Ive got an idea if I should just pay someone else to do it?
Thankies in advance

Re: Exhaust valves
might be someone here who can help you out bud - a garage will cost you a fortune unless someone can recommend someone local to you.
shouldnt be a major job - once youve got the valves out slide the new ones in and see how much work there is to do.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Exhaust valves
It's about a hundred and twenty quid all in, you'll need a new head gasket, two new ex valves and some shims.
Easy job, the new valves will need lapping in, and the shims get done with the head in situ and torqued down.
Then re-set the valve timing, and away you go.
Only special tools over an above the usual spanners and socket set is the valve grinding stick and paste vernier or micrometer to measure shim thicknesses.
Shame you're over in Soton, nearer and I'd have lent a hand.
Surely someone your way that'll get oily with you?
(probably better to put that another way, really)

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Exhaust valves
Thanks for the advice. Managed to get all the bits bar the shims cus I dont know what size I need yet for about £80 so will spend tomorrow lapping in the valves and putting it all back together, weather permitting! On the subject of shims, does anyone know if most Honda dealers (or any other garage for that matter) keep a good stock of shims? And how much they go for? I dont want to have to wait until next week for them to be delivered if I buy them online as I need the bike asap and cant cope with the lack of power from my old CBR!!
