master cylinder info anyone???

right, a while ago, duno who posted it, but someone posted a list of different master cylinder and caliper capacities, piston surface area etc...
where the crouton is it lol!
reasons i ask are manifold...
1) the originals are shite and i'm not happy with them. even worse with cbr calipers on so i want to replace the mc.
2) i don't like the look of the different clutch & brake mc
3) i want to put my vfr bars back on but don't want to trim my new fairing... last time, the brake mc was hitting the fairing so i had to cut about 1" off under the screen.
4) i have these:


they look cool, match the bike, brake & clutch mc look the same & with nice black levers, plus they're low profile so i won't need to cut the fairing.

they're off my cbx, which has way better brakes imo than the storm - i'd be happy to swap them between bikes but i was wondering if whoever posted the mc info a while ago can point me to the same info on the cbx mcs as google is a waste of time>

regardless, i'll probably try them anyway, can't possibly be any worse than the oem parts, and the other benefits will make up for me potentially stuffing it up the back of a transit

ah nice one - but doesn't show the old cbx mc though, didn't think it would.

I've got a Fireblade 929 MCyl on mine - bleeds properly, and brakes work great,,,,

yeh but it sticks up the same as the std one - big round thing isn't it?
i want to try the cbx ones cos the clutch & brake are matching, like a mirror image - i'll only know what the braking is like when it's on.
the cbx just has 2 massive twin pot calipers instead of the 4s on the storm, though i bet the piston & pad area is bigger on the cb.
might pop them on tonight, got some new pads to fit as well - i'll let you know what it works like... got loads of goodies to play with before wkend

I like the round ones 'cos I can put my Skull & Crossbones sweatband on it :-)

it's really just a question of the M/C bore IIRC the Std one is 14mm and the Blade one is 19mm.

benny, I can e-mail the XL file if it helps you run the calculations. send PM with address.

Measure the piston sizes for caliper and MC from teh CBX and you will be able to see what the effect will be............take note of teh PB article at the end of the thread, which was proof that a stiff lever feel makes your head think the brakes are better, but having good hydraulic leverage [a smaller MC] which makes the lever softer, gives better stopping distances!

i would agree with that tbh - i dont want brakes that i'm scared of using, i'd prefer more stopping power, but still keep the control rather than the brake be a on off switch!
new pads have turned up so i'll fit them with new fluid (again) and the cbx mcs which i reckon will definately be smaller piston than the storm unit (i'll check in the shop manual tho)

then ive got some tyres to fit before tomorrow - off out for a ride then going watching slash later!

well, i fitted them anyway and i'm extremely happy!

the clutch feels lighter (but it's got a squeak!)
the brake lever feels more positive and doesn't touch the throttle when i pull it hard..
on the road what can i say.... wish i'd done this months ago, feels so much better, like it's actually doing something when i pull the brake lol!
saying that, i just fitted new pads as well, so once theyre bedded in proper the braking should be A1.

might have a look at the rear mc & see if that will fit as well
bonus is, as you can see in the pics, they are very low profile with a good 2" clearance off the fairing, so i should be able to put the vfr bars back on without getting the dremel out again!
