not running right

Post by ridg_1987 »

first of all hello to you all. had my storm about 6 months now and its never run right. it starts fine with choke on but as soon as the choke is all the way in it starts popping and farting through the pipes. when riding the bike you can feel up to just over 4000 revs it feels really flat but as soon as you get over 4000 revs it pulls like a train. it doesn't stop no matter how hot or cold the bike is does it all the time. i have got art race cans on it but it was the same even with the standard pipes on it. i've changed the plugs and air filter and no difference. anyone any ideas because its really beggining to do my head in  thanks very much

choke plungers sticking?
carbs out of sync?
air leaks from carb rubbers?
carbs dirty? badly done dynojet kit?
perished / torn carb diaphragm?
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I'd check the fuel tap diaphragm/vacuum pipe first. Perhaps the vacuum over 4000 rpm is enough to suck the fuel into the carbs but they are a bit starved below that. If it has race cans on, was it rejetted/needles changed?
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

yeah when i got the bike the fuel tap diaphragm had a hole in it so thats been changed and is working properly. i put the race cans on myself and thought it might make it a bit better because when i bought it, it looked like the standard cans had only been put on recently with new clamps and exhaust paste sealling them properly, however it runs the same with either set of pipes on

i think its most likely the slow running jets in your carbs full of sh1t, has the bike been stood a while or had crappy fuel in? i would arm yourself with a can of carb cleaner and strip the carbs and clean them up, checking everything as you go.
