Choke cable connector
Choke cable connector
Removed my carbs last night so I can clean them and put in a brass vacuum take off at the font for balancing. The plastic nut holding the choke cable into the carb body snapped on the front one - can these be bought separately does anyone know?

Re: Choke cable connector
silvers & wemoto do a choke rebuild kit for the storm - should be in there i think...
or jpengineering (in usa - not pjeng, the exhaust ppl) do complete list of parts for all keihin carbs.
might be worth googling the carb model and seeing if theres anywhere local.
i would imagine a lot use the same part.
in the meantime get some quicksteel epoxy repair and bodge it.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Cheers Benny - I'll have a look at Silvers site.
One other thing, as I have a Scotoiler I can take the vaccuum for the balancer from the T piece - does this mean, presumably, that I don't need to clamp the vacuum pipe to the fuel diaphragm as it will stay open?

Re: Choke cable connector
should be ok as long as theres no vac leak from a perished pipe...
once the engine sucks it just pulls the diaphragm in - it doesn't (shouldn't) suck air in from there, so yes, you should be able to just tag the balancer to the oiler tee.
i assume you have fitted the adaptor to the front cyl? the one from the scottoiler kit?
did you get some little inline valves with your balance kit? you may need to restrict the vac inlet to the gauges a bit to get a stable reading.
a clothes peg on the pipe should do it, otherwise it bounces about a bit if you just have it connected straight to the inlet stub.
i found a problem with my scottoiler set-up - as i'm using vacuum relief valves on the over-run, it was airlocking the scottoiler, losing the priming vacuum - i need to find a small inline non-return valve to stop it happening - until then i'm back to using millers dry graphite / ptfe spray on the chain!

Re: Choke cable connector
I actually used the vacuum take off from the rear cylinder (which would go the the fuel tap) from my old spare engine. Will attach a length of tube to this and blank it off with a small bolt and jubilee clip when not in use for balancing (on the front cylinder, that is)
Its a fairly new diaphragm and not leaking at all. Will have a go at balancing in the next few days.
