Mine's garaged, I wash it after rain rides and I wax it every couple of weeks. I also use metal polish on the castings, so I guess you could call me a little anal

Its a lie mate, salesmen (I used to be one) use shitloads of silicone and furniture polish which not much use in the real worl as you get marks and blotches from the elements.

I find I have to religiously wash/rinse after rain, wash and wax each week with Crystal Glow Acrylic polish and autosol for the polished metal and exhausts, you can finish that again with Crystal Glow to give it a chance in bollox uk weather. Can take 4-5 hours on a saturday to do a proper job.

Oh yeah bite the bullet and buy 2-3 large, stiff tooth brushes, just the thing to get in thoose nooks, great for bringin up the gols brake calipers.

Hope that helps and doesn't depress you too much. If you get too down I'll send you pickies of mine so you can be in disbelief at the abmount of bits which are polised/ cromed whch I have to polish.
I got knocked down, but i'll get up again and you'll never ever keep me down!

ah I forgot, dry space essential, mines garaged. Get some plastic sheeting and attach to the roof so water drains to the side away from your bike......

I polish/clean mine every weekend.......as per above, and then cover with a breathable bike cover to keep all that dust off, until i use it again....

(i've done 25+k miles in 2 yrs.........can you imagine how much cleaning that takes!!)

No substitute for hours of elbow grease and Mr sheene I'm afraid followed by a healthy dose of WD40

I found "Mothers polish & glaze" good on the painted bits.. including the wheel rims, screen and mirrors. Simple green bike wash get off the gunk,.. in the hard to get to places.
Dunno about that silicone,.. I prefer to be able to go around corners with out skidding. haha.

Clean bikes

Post by Orange Robbie »

Wash mine once a week, or maybe twice depending on how much I use it, if not too dirty, Castrol Green cleaner, but this marks any ali bits such as rear sets and pillion pegs, car shampoo, leather dry and then use Tesco furniture polish on painted areas, Solvol Auto Sol on the Ali bits, and Furniture polish on me rims, or Parafin for particularly stubborn stains, ohh err. Flies and bugs I use Bug Off which acts like a polish, spray on leave and then polish off. Tank and other painted areas Autoglym Super Resin polish once a month or so, toothbrush with Parafin on the chain, wipe off and let it evaporate, apply chain wax, let it go off and then wipe off residue. The only area I have trouble with is the I think it's the coil casing at the bottom of the front cylinder, marks like buggery and cant seem to shift it. Every so often try to clean the inner faces of the swinging arm as well.
Don't look too bad, wouldn't stand up to close scrutiny, works for me anyway.
Slow in, slow out. Ohh err missus, now with added G-Force carbon fibre race cans. Sounds like a Spitfire.

I will cleasn mine when it gets dirty ( duh, really ?!!) and when it won't be raining for at least a few days. I use turtlewax/wash stuff, a toothbrush and degreaser for the nooks, crannies, calipers etc and then some holts bike polish stuff. It is a '97 storm, 38,000 miles, doing about 8,000 a year. Apart from the general wear it looks as good as new: no corrosion or furred bolts (several cans of wd40 in winter is a damn good investment ) and no scratches on paintwork. A good clean (fairing off etc) should n't take more than about 2 hours really, imho.
As soon as I read about the dangers of drinking too much, I immediately gave up reading.
