Rear sprocket bolts

Post by SlingVTR »

What size are the rear sprocket bolts, ie M?.......just saw some fancy drilled titanium ones at £10 each...that aint for me....wondering if some shiny ones from "Bang and Screw" would be up to the job of replacing my furry little bleeders...... :wtf:

Don't get the titanium ones, my bike came with them fitted and the first time I tried to undo them the helicoil-type inserts came out on three out of the set.

I suppose if they're greased up well you might get away with it....

titanium or stainless steel into aluminium alloy = classic galvanic cell.
in other words the 2 metals will electrically fuse together, making a new oxidised compound where they touch - ie, the thread will rot away, faster than you would expect.

google it! :biggrin

the only way around this is to use an old rolls royce method and completely rewire the bike to have a +ve ground instead of -ve.
they noticed the chromed ally trim strip around the cars was rotting the bodywork, and that's how they got around it.
it will still rot, but the bolt will go instead of the thread on the carrier.
better still, just get the proper bolts!
as long as they are high carbon anything m12 will do.
recommend using capheads (allen) as it minimises the amount of tools you need to strip the thing next time

I have had a word with Captain rock, he is Spocks brother, he reports the galvanic cell is indeed a bi lateral fusion indespherical oobly jooster, therefore I will be going with proper jobs. The phaserical alignment is now in flux and they are off to boldy go where no one has gone before and I wish them goodbye. :Finger1:

Funny, you seemed remarkably au fait with the vibrating rock ring I was sporting at the Summer Meetup.
