gearshift ball joints

Post by benny hedges »

just fitted some of these new rose joints to the gearchange shaft and lever and bloody hell!
loads better!
feels very smooth, no clunking - very slick.

they do left & right handed threads - the shaft end on my harris ones was m6 left hander.
the standard one on the storm is m6xm6 male-male on the gear lever end and m6x m8 male-male on the shaft- pedal end (not checked if the standard one is a left hand thread tho.
they have a rubber boot fitted as well to keep the crap out so they should last ages.

they only do male-female joints so had to use a cut off bolt in the female thread, but no biggy.
cheap as well and free delivery

I bet your insurers will consider this is a performance enhancing modification!

Benny,
Are these rose joints free of-play unlike the standard ones :?:

yes m8, bronze lined. no play at all, hence the smooth gearchange.
theres high performance ones too that will go straight on with the standard bolts. same seller.

Now all you need to do is ream and bush the gearchange lever pivot.

Not sure that there's room for a tiny roller bearing, but that would be even better.

Ah, the joys of fiddling just for the sake of it

the one that came with the rearsets, the gear lever end was fooked, think thats why they were cheap.
i noticed it waggling about & when i got my boot under it there was about 8mm slack before the lever moved.
the original one wasnt much better.
works very nicely now for less than a tenner - it's actually a pleasure now 1st to 2nd & back and no more inbetween gears.
it kept like half going in but not fully, so the lever was still springing up instead of locking in place

had to drop the rear sets down a peg tho cos i kept getting my boot zip ztuck on them at lights 8O

scroll down or look at the seller's ebay shop - there's lots of pics of the items.
i went for the complete joint rather than just the banjo - very good improvement imo for not much £

Seen it now; he can't put the pics up intil he's got the angles right as the link connector's too long

But looks like a worthwhile mod, will sort mine out when i have a chance.

Although an HM Racing quickshifter might work just a tad better........
They're doing my dyno work, so maybe a deal could be struck.
