Ariel Colt - don't have a pic. Cameras hadn't been invented!
Probably worst bike ever made. 55mph, no brakes and lights gave slightly less illumination then a fat splif! Cost me £10 in 1965.

Next was a Velocette MSS, £25 in bits. Then 4 or 5 Velocette KSS, one of the best british bikes (certainly engines) made. Sold the lot in 1971 for £20. Currently selling for c. £6750 each. Still I needed the £20 at the time........

Brilliant! The very one...although this looks much smarter than mine and mine was brown, including the (rusty) rims.

Mind you I did ride it 20 miles to work and back for a year in all weather.

You could pick up the 500cc Comets for a song in the 60s/70s - although the 1000s were never cheap. I finished up with a 500cc Velo with lots of trick bits, which I raced for several years. Got married, had first child (well wife had her!) so sold for £125. Next bike was the Storm in 2002!

P.S. Got a pic of the Velo KSS somewhere - buried in the loft - but I'd have to buy scanner......
