My bikes A1 standard and want to know if yours is the same story.Nice warm morning pull choke out quarter inch, starts first time but I have to put choke off straight away or it stops.Does this mean carbs too rich at bottom.Alot of bikes I've had needed choke for a couple of minutes and they have been much better on gass.
ThanksfromPaul

Re: DOES YOURS
Nope, mine needs full choke to start on a warm morning, and stays on for a mile or so.
Going anywhere in a car is a journey, going anywhere on a bike is an adventure!
Re: DOES YOURS
ditto. I need the choke out if the bike has been stood for more than 2 hours. About half to a mile and then in but it feels like it might stall until it gets warm. Your bike sounds a bit out - what's the fuel economy like? I get 90-100 ish until light

Re: DOES YOURS
That's deffo not right.
I also get 90-100 to the light when riding hard on short runs. If I ride hard on a long run I get 115 to the light, and that's on A roads - it'd be interesting to see what I could get riding like a granny on the motorway! (and mines done 31,000)

mine is the same, choke to start then off straight away, dont know what it would be like in the cold; I only take it out when the temperature is above 23°C, relative humidity 35-55% and chance of precipitation 0%oldbikeman wrote:My bikes A1 standard and want to know if yours is the same story.Nice warm morning pull choke out quarter inch, starts first time but I have to put choke off straight away or it stops.Does this mean carbs too rich at bottom.Alot of bikes I've had needed choke for a couple of minutes and they have been much better on gass.

Re: DOES YOURS
on the way down to stratford, filtering at 50 - 100 on a busy m6 / m42 most of the way, i set off with 48 miles into a full tank, lamp came on at 130 and managed 158 before i turned off to look for fuel.bandsawman wrote:- it'd be interesting to see what I could get riding like a granny on the motorway! surprisingly it took less than 17L to brim.
i'm sure the improved economy is due to partially fixing the over-rich fuelling, rather than going easy on the throttle as i still revved it hard filling gaps between lanes

also carrying maybe 50kg of luggage...
that's the furthest ive been on a tankfull so far, usually i fill up 12-14L a time at 100 mile or so, rather less if im out for a thrash.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: DOES YOURS
Where I live in Lincolnshire the petrol stations are becoming pretty rare so it's not safe to do full tank runs ,and you cannot rely hundred percent on the next one along.I want to do a round Scotland trip but the idea of thumbing a lift with a can in my hand is a big put off.My bikes a lovely greedy pig.

Re: DOES YOURS
When I had to go on a french tour with BMW GS1200's and the like, I strapped a 5L can on the pillion.
I never used it, but it made me feel comfortable running past the red light and not stressing about where the next petrol stop might be.

I have now down graded to a 1l fuel bottle that you can get from camping shops. That will get me an extra 10 or 15 miles. Perhaps you have 2 of those strapped somwhere on your kit.
