Stripped, rebuilt, hit starter, nothing!

Post by Dazjm »

As topic says..

Turned on ignition, dash lights up etc, neutral light is lit etc.

Press starter, and nothing, just a very slight, quiet click from the starter relay. Disconnected the starter motor, tried agiain, made no difference.

Looking at the wiring diagram, theres nothing else that can really be fuxed, apart from the starter relay? Pls correct me if i am wrong.

Does anyone have a starter relay kicking about that works?

bypass the relay to test the starter.
jump lead from battery + to the starter connector on the relay.

could be the ignition switch also...
have you got a wiring diagram>? one in the pdf shop manual in workshop forum

*oh yes, you have sorry!

have you checked all is plugged in proper
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Daz,
If the engine turns over freely by hand which I presume you have already checked, then another possibility could be that the battery is down on power, not enough in it to turn the engine over :?:

What exactly have you done to the engine in your rebuild :?:

The battery is new, well, its been on an optimate since new, about 9 months ago.

The engine turns by hand, did it when i was checking valve clearances. I should be hearing the relay clicking, which im not. Gonna get the meter out and check some stuff. Pretty sure its a dodgy relay tho.

Bypassed the relay by tapping the starter motor onto the + connection. Bike started ok after a bit (understandable) , but only on one cylinder, revved it a bit, no joy, then i noticed i hadnt put the front spark plug cap on! d'oh.
