954 front end... so far so good

Post by seb421 »

making good progress with the bike

got the old sh1t off the front..

replaced with the 954 forks :)

got the front wheel and disc's on now, new 954 fender,

just need to the top clamp to be sorted at customs, oh and the callipers

glad I ordered 954 callipers as these firestorm items dont fit... they would if I reworked them but i cant be arsed with that, ill just clean them up and sell them cheap on ebay

bottom clamp fits like a dream and the bearings are sweet

i did order some new bearings for the headstock from ebay piramid parts or sommat... but they dont fit.. glad the bade bottom one was still really good and used the old storm one on the top as that was still good too.

just need spacers to turn up now for the wheel... hopefully they will be here later today in the post or tomorrow morning?

i will post some pics up when im done.

dont wana get the SLR full of muck and what not, so been taking the odd photo with the crap mobile, which at the moment wont send data to the laptop via usb cable? hummmmm

and yeh its a USD, lowers the front quite a bit, but i think its given it a more aggressive looking stance now.

just pissing about with the rear end... bought a pryamid under tray last year and never got round to fitting it... so now i have a new subframe and prity much whole back end too i have the chance...

Pictures would definitely be nice :)

Question about the calipers. I'm collecting parts to do the front end swap as well - I've got the 929 legs, 954 yokes, the handlebars and the discs, but not the wheel (yet - anyone got one lying about?) - but I figured I could get away with reusing the calipers from the vtr?! From what I've read about upgrading the vtr with 929/954 brakes, I reckoned the other way around would work too, but no? What sort of problems did you encounter, what sort of work would be required?

Anyway, good luck, we'll be looking forward to the final result!

you can have a look at pictures here.....

the caliper would need reqorking, and i dont think it would 'grab' all of the disc too with the disc i used as its a bigger disc you may not get a full coverage, hence i got 954 disc's with 954 calipers.

keep hamering ebay, they do pop up, i got a front and rear with tyres and discs for 200 quid :D mega steal

:)
