Hi this is my first post on the forum so hello! Ive just managed to get my firestorm running right after discovering some numpty had set the cam timing 180 degrees out and now im trying to address the other little problems i have!
The rev counter doesnt work at all however the fuel light does so im assuming its not a power supply issue? The CDI appears to have been changed for a different type as the connectors are not standard would this be a possible cause?
Also the speedo has started to work intermitantly, when i accelerate it stops working but when i lift off it works again?????
any help on these two problems would be much appreciated?

i'd check the connector block at the back of the speedo as first call, then the tiny m4 x head screws on the back of the instrument cluster where the wires terminate to the speedo and tacho.
i'm sure someone will confirm, but the cdi just gives the spark and shouldn't affect the clocks.
however the icm (ignition control module) will if that's been changed.
that's responsible for calculating when to spark, what advance from the advance rotor, throttle position sensor, coolant temp sensor etc... that's the bigger 16 pin black box underneath the cdi unit in the tailpiece, near the rear lamp.
if it's been changed i have a spare oe unit or you can pick them up on ebay cheap enough.
others have had speedo problems and theyve cured themselves. if it's stone dead it could be the sensor (expensive!) but check the wiring first.
i would guess whoever had the 180 out problem tried everything to cure the misfire, suspecting it was an ignition / electrical fault. look for signs of meddling and that's probably your answer

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

i did wonder if whoever had got the cam timing wrong hadnt then tried a number of things to cure the misfire that they had generated! thats the problem with buying unknown bikes i suppose!

The joy of buying one of these with the timing 180 out is that it's dead easy to diagnose and then the fix cost is minimal.
And you get to ride it round to the seller a few hours later and tell them what it was.......
