Maybe I should just invest in another bike
I wanted a commuter not a headache
So another vtr a sp1
Or a varadero
Not heard of this with SP's, but the Varadero is based on the same basic engine design, and will use a lot of common components, so it wouldn't surprise me that some of those have the same problem. Five speed gears and different cams/carbs seems to be the main differences, but I haven't stripped and compared.

Go on, bite the bullet and strip the motor, replace the bearing and then we'll all know.
You'll have it done in a weekend.

what a weekend last night had burglars kick there way out of my garden broke the gate
thing is i dont know if they was after stuff in my garden bike kayaks etc or the neighbors
as the neighbors startled em out of there neighbors garden
and the shits split up and ran for it two ended up in my garden i think one booted gate to escape and the other hid nearby
i think in opposite neighbors garden
i was thinking 2 am this morning sods law itll get nicked
ride this morning was ace as usual ride home half way ive picked up a whole new rattle a bit worrying
ive did a youtube will post it here
im thinking if its one of the cct's i must be the luckiest sod in the world regardless of burglars for it to pop the day after having them stoppered

linky hard to differentiate from the clutch noise the usual internal rattles lol

i know for sure it aint chain nor clutch

i'd ask tony if he's lost a 10mm socket lol :biggrin

thing is, if youve done the stopper mod and a spring has broke, it will just rattle.
it can't fully retract and jump a tooth.
otherwise, the first time you stopped the engine or throttle back to decelerate thats exactly what would happen, cos its easier to skip round the cog than compress the valve spring -

i was cringing then when you turned it off lol

does sound like it's gone to me... wait for other opinions.
i'm sure if there was anything else wrong with it tony would've spotted it and let you know.

you need a plan of action.
have you tried doing the long screwdriver stethoscope thing?
i find it works best with earplugs in or wearing ear defenders. press the handle hard against your ear and touch the tip on suspect areas - should allow you to pinpoint it quite accurately.

Didnt listen to the youtube, as my work wont allow access to those sites, but you can confirm if the CCT is working by taking the 8mm nut of the back and putting a screw driver in [or the little key that tony used to lock them in place.

wind the screw driver Anti-CW to pull the CCT back to the stopper, turn engine over by hand, and if screw driver stays in same position, the spring is broke. If it winds back in, the spring is working, and its not the CCT

Actually I find it's even easier than that- if you can feel spring tension against the small screwdriver it's fine, if there's none- spring gone.
Give me a call on home (landline) tel: 01732 762460 and I can talk you through it.

And no, socket set is complete!

no dont jut replace the spring... i dont even know if there is any data on the spec of the spring?
a new auto tensioner is £32 from david silver spares. gasket is about £3 if you want one.
but for that, almost, rider on a storm will do you a set of his excellent TT manual tensioners - get your name down for a set. highly recommended.

Clutch pin?
Can't think what this might be??

And it might be the pressure plate.

Let us know how it feels once it's done.
