Test ride reports and a dilemma

Post by Buckers »

Hi

Like Beamish I am currently trying out a new bike. The VTR is staying for now as my daily commute, but I'm thinking of changing my Sunday and weekend tour blaster.

I've got a cbr600rr in the blue/white/black colours and I love it: handling, balance, looks, way it revs, comfy for 300+ a day, sounds good, best bike I have ever had and I've owned it 12 months from new.

But then my mate goes and gets a new Zx10. What a power difference, it reminded me of the grunt of my sp2, with twice the power and all the smoothness of my cbr. Rock hard suspension though, so not for me. But it got me thinking about having an i4 1000.

I've test ridden a new blade (basically my cbr600rr with hyperdrive engine) and a gixxer 1000 with the big piston forks. Both are incredibly powerful, too much for the roads on anything more than part throttle unless doing motorway flypasts and speed runs. BUT - great at overtaking, stable as a rock, just about as agile as the cbr.

I'm in a dilemma about whether to change to the suzuki - getting a great deal on an ex demo - 2250 plus mine for a 10 plate with 800 miles. What to do?

Got to ask yourself why anyone would sell a bike with that low mileage and in such a short time............
Must have really hated it.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Buckers you know I have put some serious thought into this. The Gixxer is a sleeper, MCN didnt rave about it so it just sort of got left out. They are an extremely competent machine, if it fits your body shape and you like the feel/handling/power delivery go for it. At least you might not need to buy shares in Silkolene like I did with the new Blade :biggrin. Could be wortnwaiting till the new ZX10 is released there will be some real bargains about and the R1 will drop like a stone in price soon I guarantee it.

Cheers Beamish. Well I took the gixxer out again yesterday and decided to stick to the cbr. I'm no faster (a bit slower actually on twisty B roads) and the cbr is a better bike for me. Damn those bike mags, they make you curious and feel like you want to change all the time!

In a way, it's nice to try something new and then find out that what you had already had was best.

I miss my sp2 though. Only sold it cos I binned it. Yours is a beauty, there's a good chance you'd miss it...
