Boots?

Post by sirch345 »

I've just got myself a pair of Sidi Vertigo boots.

Before I go modifying the side stand lever on my Storm, I was wondering if anybody else here found these boots difficult for putting the side stand down with. I usually put the stand down whilst still sat on the bike with the heel of my boot. But because these boots have rather large heel protector at the back of the boots, it makes it difficult to activate the stand.

So has anyone come across this problem :?: if you have I'd like too hear how you got around it.

Chris.

i put a gearchange rubber over the foot lever on the sidestand and it makes it easier to swing it down.
also because the sidestand was hitting the bellypan underneath.
& i bent the lever down a bit by putting a tube over it & a bit of welly.

problem i have with my boots is i keep knocking the bike into 1st while putting the stand down. keep trying to remember to hit the killswitch before putting the stand down!

need a new pair anyway cos the zip is fooked on the left one, i lost the zipper thing which makes them a tw@ to fasten up :/
might invest in some off that closing down sale...

i do that on my jeans when the zip gets loose through metal fatigue of trying to restrain my sausage.
i thread a keyring hoop through the zipper and hook it over the button so my zip dunt keep falling down.

Cheers for that Benny, that's given me an idea with you mentioning about fitting a gear change rubber :plainsmile
For zip repairs look further down.

I used to do that JB, that was until a very good friend of mine pointed me onto what I've posted below.

Know what you mean, Sirch, I run Vertigos myself, on the second pair now.
I find they're as tough as old......well, they last quite well.

It's the soles that wear through first, must use the brakes instead of scuffing my feet on the road

The only prob I had was one of the plastic tabs covering the calf adjuster on the back pulled off, and left a little metal spike, which popped neatly through the seat cover while trying to climb on loaded with luggage.
Soon fixed that, though, (by buying a spare seat)...

And yes, they make it difficult to pull the sidestand down with your heel.
I find you can use the side of the sole at the widest point of the boot, keeping your foot fore-and-aft.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Cheers Tony for the info. I bet you were will miffed about the seat damage, not something you'd expect :!:

I see you can buy replacement soles on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIDI-SPORT-BLACK- ... 335f42a490 but, I don't know how you'd go about fitting them. I imagine you would need to remove the existing soles first. Then you'd need some super powerful adhesive to attach the new ones with. Have you (or anyone else for that matter) come across anyone who's actually done this :?:

I did wonder if the Vertigos would have been any better as they seem to have slightly smaller heel protection at the rear, but hearing what you say it doesn't sound like it.

I shouldn't moan, after all they are race boots so not many race bikes have side stands I guess
