Hi all decided to do my manual cct change today and came across a rather odd thing, I had set the mark in the small window (altenator cover cams leaning towards each other and looked at the marks on the cam wheel and guess what, the exhaust cam was well below the level of the cylinder head, just over 1/4 1 tooth out , the inlet cam mark was dead level, this was before the tension was taken off the auto tensioner.........any one else come across this ?

could possibly be a tooth out... double check it before you reassemble and turn it over.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

All you can do is get to the nearest tooth to having the lines level with the cylinder head, with (as Benny points out) the tension pulling in the correct direction.
Any chain wear (or sprockets for that matter) will mean that the lines may be slightly out, seldom enough to mean that you need to move to the next tooth, though.
Ideally (if you were a perfectionist or racing) you'd slot the cam sprockets and adjust them manually to get the centre of the cam lobe at exactly the right point, but this isn't necessary for normal use and probably wouldn't give any noticeable power or running gains or losses.

Mine did that, Stretched cam chains was the only plauseable reason.
Time them up as close as possible and turn it over by hand 3 or 4 times just to make sure.

I'm gettin' my tame mechy to check my CCT's in the morning .... that means they're included in my warranty. I'll replace them anyway if it's clear that they've not already been done. I'll do the rectifier as well if that too hasn't been sort by the previous owner.
