Paint Query!

Post by mattster »

Hey folks,

Got a question for all you expert bike painters...

I've got a new bellypan for my storm which needs to be sanded/primed/painted/laquered to make it all nice and shiny again...

Is there a particular primer & paint (black - gloss) which anyone can recommend?

It'll need to be a spraycan as I don't have a compressor or the money to buy one.

When I get all the stuff together, I'll do my best to take pictures and stick em up here!

cheers folks

(Yes - if you're on Bikerforum.co.uk you may have seen this request over there too!) :)

suggest before you paint it you go to a car place (or scrapyard) and get some self adhesive bonnet insulation for the inside otherwise your new shiny paint job won't last a week.

theres a good site called carbuildersupplies (or sumat) that sell all that stuff.
this place - http://www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk/
recommend you use a good one pack paint rather than cheapo off the shelf acryllic, much better finish & easy to spray..
if it's metallic you want a silver primer.
lacquer you want a fuel and oil proof lacquer like proXL uv & fuel proof clear lacquer - ebay or pontypryd paints.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Just givin my 2 cents but i'd go for polyuretane as it is flexible, acrylic is too hard for plastics and will chip, heat shield for sure (benny spot on) as mine did blister, did spraypainting for 5 years and this is what worked for me. We use a great full gloss black 2 pac in work and its a standard RAl colour from most good paint suppliers. I'm not sure if you can get this in spray tins from aoto factors but it is obtainable from manufactures like Trimite. If you want I will get you details of RAL code,
