Battery/Electrical.......

Ok, I have installed new battery, charged it on the Optimate 4 everything fine......went to work came home stuck the Optimate back on and it "says" the battery is sulphated...(red light flashing) Regulator is putting out 14v so no probs there so why is the battery discharging on my 30m ride to work.........ideas please.....

I take it that the Optimate is switched OFF before you connect it? If not you will get a red light. Switch it off, connect it, switch on and the light will stay orange for a bit then should go green.

yes switched off, when its turned on it goes straight to red flashing, doing its testy thing gotta wait 2 hours now to see what it does next which will be at 8.15 tonight uk time.

The red light went off then the bottom yellow started flashing................its like a disco................

Are you sure the alternator is putting out 14v or did you read the amount in the full charged battery which should be 13.8-14v. Connect your volt meter across the battery and rev to 5k you should see at least 14.5-15v if not the battery is not getting enough charge.

I think I may have cured it......I spent 9 hours watching a blinking yellow light and then turned it off. I disconnected the Oxford "warm" grips and blow mw down when I reconnected yellow blinky thing it went to charge as normal.... So in a way there was a problem but not with the battery, I didnt realise that a poor connection here would cause a sulfation alert on the blinky thing.......sheeesh.

The worst smack in the teeth is when I put the old battery on it tested fine, so now i have 2 battery's....

There are 2 things I cant do without, 1 is Toilet roll, and 2 hot grips.......I took the plastic connectors off and professionally twisted the the bare cables together and wrapped in some professional quality gaffer tape, then had a cup of professionally made tea.

Eeeee yer right jessie. I'm just about to start riding in a Tshirt instead of just a string vest and shorts may put some rubber grips on't handlebars if it gets below freezing and maybe a pair of trackies.
